Job Description

Join Wheeling-Nippon Steel as a Program Developer, working onsite in Follansbee, West Virginia. You will design, implement, and maintain applications on the IBM i (AS/400) platform using RPG and Java, ensuring high availability and scalable performance for critical business processes. The position offers a salary of USD 85,000 per year and requires a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field along with at least five years of IBM i programming experience.

Responsibilities

  • Create, implement, test, and maintain applications built with RPG IV/ILE, Free-Form RPG, and Java on IBM i.
  • Maintain and enhance legacy RPG programs alongside modern Java applications.
  • Gather requirements from business stakeholders and translate them into functional specifications.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, systems administrators, and the Production Control Team.
  • Participate in code reviews and promote best practices in programming and design.
  • Integrate IBM i applications with external systems through APIs, web services, and middleware.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to database design, optimization, and maintenance using DB2 for i.
  • Support system upgrades, backups, and disaster recovery planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of five years of programming experience on the IBM i (AS/400) platform.
  • Strong proficiency with RPG IV, ILE RPG, Free-Form RPG, and CL.
  • Extensive Java experience, including object-oriented design and enterprise application development.
  • Familiarity with DB2 for i and SQL.
  • Experience using source control and version management tools.
  • Solid understanding of the IBM i environment, including job scheduling, libraries, and user profiles.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
