Program Developer
Job Description
Join Wheeling-Nippon Steel as a Program Developer, working onsite in Follansbee, West Virginia. You will design, implement, and maintain applications on the IBM i (AS/400) platform using RPG and Java, ensuring high availability and scalable performance for critical business processes. The position offers a salary of USD 85,000 per year and requires a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field along with at least five years of IBM i programming experience.
Responsibilities
- Create, implement, test, and maintain applications built with RPG IV/ILE, Free-Form RPG, and Java on IBM i.
- Maintain and enhance legacy RPG programs alongside modern Java applications.
- Gather requirements from business stakeholders and translate them into functional specifications.
- Collaborate with business analysts, systems administrators, and the Production Control Team.
- Participate in code reviews and promote best practices in programming and design.
- Integrate IBM i applications with external systems through APIs, web services, and middleware.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Contribute to database design, optimization, and maintenance using DB2 for i.
- Support system upgrades, backups, and disaster recovery planning.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of five years of programming experience on the IBM i (AS/400) platform.
- Strong proficiency with RPG IV, ILE RPG, Free-Form RPG, and CL.
- Extensive Java experience, including object-oriented design and enterprise application development.
- Familiarity with DB2 for i and SQL.
- Experience using source control and version management tools.
- Solid understanding of the IBM i environment, including job scheduling, libraries, and user profiles.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
