Job Description

Join Wheeling-Nippon Steel as a Program Developer, working onsite in Follansbee, West Virginia. You will design, implement, and maintain applications on the IBM i (AS/400) platform using RPG and Java, ensuring high availability and scalable performance for critical business processes. The position offers a salary of USD 85,000 per year and requires a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field along with at least five years of IBM i programming experience.

Responsibilities

Create, implement, test, and maintain applications built with RPG IV/ILE, Free-Form RPG, and Java on IBM i.
Maintain and enhance legacy RPG programs alongside modern Java applications.
Gather requirements from business stakeholders and translate them into functional specifications.
Collaborate with business analysts, systems administrators, and the Production Control Team.
Participate in code reviews and promote best practices in programming and design.
Integrate IBM i applications with external systems through APIs, web services, and middleware.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues in a timely manner.
Contribute to database design, optimization, and maintenance using DB2 for i.
Support system upgrades, backups, and disaster recovery planning.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Minimum of five years of programming experience on the IBM i (AS/400) platform.
Strong proficiency with RPG IV, ILE RPG, Free-Form RPG, and CL.
Extensive Java experience, including object-oriented design and enterprise application development.
Familiarity with DB2 for i and SQL.
Experience using source control and version management tools.
Solid understanding of the IBM i environment, including job scheduling, libraries, and user profiles.
Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
