Mission Design Tools Software Engineer
Job Description

This onsite role supports NASA mission design software development, including building variable degree-of-freedom simulations and enhancing mission design tools, with responsibilities spanning development, integration, testing, documentation, and process improvements.
Responsibilities
- Create variable degree-of-freedom simulations and related software tools for NASA and commercial spaceflight programs
- Integrate, extend, and validate new software enhancements and capabilities within mission design tools
- Produce documentation for software deliveries
- Recommend improvements to software design and software development processes
- Support efforts to elevate mission design software to Class C per NPR 7150.2
- Maintain mission design software tools at Class C in line with established procedures
- Perform additional duties as required
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent certification in a related field, or equivalent relevant experience
- Proficient in C++, Fortran, and Python
- Experience delivering products using source code management tools such as Git or GitLab
- Experience implementing and enforcing software coding standards
- Experience across the full software lifecycle: requirements, design, implementation, testing, and release
- Proficient in CI/CD tools and techniques
- Proficient in software task management and collaboration tools
- Experience with Agile frameworks, methodologies, and techniques
- Experience working in Windows, Mac, and Linux environments
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work in a team with NASA civil servants and contractor staff
- Strong interpersonal skills for collaborative engineering
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines with limited supervision
- Ability to prepare written documents and to present verbally at meetings
- Experience with Microsoft Office products

Work Environment
Generally an office environment, with some tasks that may require indoor or outdoor work depending on the assignment.
Physical Requirements
Most work involves sitting or standing for extended periods (approximately 90% of the time). Lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds may be required about 5% of the time.

Standard office equipment including a PC, telephone, and printer.
Attendance
Regular attendance in line with the established schedule is essential. Occasional work outside normal hours may be required to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
