Lead Software Engineer-AI Foundation Services

Based in Plano, TX, this onsite Lead Software Engineer role focuses on building AI foundation services for GenAI and ML at enterprise scale within JPMorganChase. The position leads hands-on delivery of secure, cloud-native platform capabilities and collaborates with application teams to create reusable integrations, reference implementations, and onboarding assets for the AIML Data Platforms group.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Lines of Business application teams to implement AI Foundation Services that enable GenAI and AI use cases, guiding work from technical design through build, launch, and initial operations support.
• Develop and enhance reusable platform services, APIs, SDKs, and libraries to standardize how teams access model hosting, inference, and AI/ML managed services.
• Translate functional and non-functional requirements into clear technical designs, engineering tasks, and delivery milestones with guidance from senior engineers and architects.
• Deliver secure, stable production code and participate in code reviews, debugging, testing, and remediation of defects across AI Foundation Services components.
• Create and maintain reusable engineering assets such as reference implementations, runbooks, test harnesses, baseline configurations, and onboarding guides to accelerate adoption.
• Promote enterprise‑level AI assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes, establishing validation standards and encouraging reuse of effective patterns.
• Leverage the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain and AI assisted development capabilities to maximize automation value.
• Design and implement scalable software components using appropriate design patterns, cloud native practices, and platform engineering standards.
• Work with cross functional teams across product, architecture, security, infrastructure, and application development to resolve dependencies and deliver production ready capabilities.
• Contribute to technical methods, standards, documentation, and implementation patterns to improve consistency, reliability, and reuse across delivery teams.
• Communicate technical progress, risks, dependencies, and implementation options to engineering managers, product partners, and senior technical stakeholders.

Requirements

• Formal training or certification in software engineering with 5+ years of applied experience.
• Strong hands-on coding experience in one or more platform service languages such as Python, Java, or Go, with a track record of delivering production grade services or APIs.
• Experience building shared services, reusable components, or platform capabilities used by multiple application or engineering teams.
• Proficiency with infrastructure as code and cloud native delivery practices, including Terraform, containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployment workflows.
• Demonstrated leadership in the effective use of approved AI assisted software development tools, with the ability to set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
• Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; experience coaching engineers on safe adoption within delivery practices.
• Hands-on experience with system design, application development, automated testing, debugging, and operational stability for production software.
• Experience implementing observability, logging, metrics, alerts, SLOs, incident response, and root-cause analysis for production services.
• Working knowledge of software development processes with depth in cloud platforms, AI/ML platforms, distributed systems, or infrastructure engineering.
• Ability to break down technical requirements into executable tasks, manage dependencies, and deliver against milestones in collaboration with product and application teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to explain technical decisions, trade-offs, issues, and risks to engineering teams and stakeholders.
