Java Software Engineer - Scrum Master

Leidos is hiring a Java Software Engineer - Scrum Master to support the Air Traffic Business Area within the Homeland Sector. The work focuses on next-generation flight service and air traffic systems in a highly regulated environment, where software delivery depends on disciplined engineering and effective Agile execution. This role blends approximately 50% hands-on Java microservices development with 50% Scrum Master responsibilities for an Agile team.

What you’ll do

• Design, develop, test, review, debug, deploy, and maintain production-quality cloud-native Java microservices, contributing to architecture and technical design decisions.
• Drive Agile execution by facilitating ceremonies, removing impediments, supporting continuous improvement, and helping the team achieve predictable sprint outcomes.
• Apply DevSecOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, AI-assisted development tools, and engineering best practices to deliver secure, high-quality software faster.
• Coordinate with the Release Train Engineer, management, and cross-functional stakeholders to communicate team status, risks, dependencies, and delivery progress.
• Support deployments and operational troubleshooting, including resolution of critical issues across development, test, and production environments.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote collaboration across engineering teams to support successful sprint execution and project delivery.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field with 4+ years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with 2+ years of prior experience.
• 3+ years designing, developing, testing, and reviewing Java applications.
• 1+ years serving as a Scrum Master on a SAFe Agile team in a large-scale software development environment.
• Significant experience with web development and front-end tools and languages: React, HTML, CSS, JavaScript.
• Experience with unit testing using Junit and Mockito.
• Experience with RESTful API, JSON, XML, and XSD.
• Experience with Spring Framework, Spring Security, and Spring Boot.
• Experience with Linux.
• Experience with version control systems such as Git or Subversion.
• Experience with common development tools and IDEs such as Eclipse and VS Code.
• Knowledge of sound software development principles and practices.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Ability to obtain SF-85 Public Trust (Tier 2) suitability determination.
• US citizenship required.
