Forward Deployed Software Engineer

South Coast Terminals is hiring a Forward Deployed Software Engineer to build internal software and automations that turn business intent into production-grade tools. Based in Houston, TX (onsite), this role partners closely with Finance, Planning & Logistics, Commercial, Operations, QA/QC, IT, and Transformation to deliver integrations, dashboards, and AI-enabled workflows. Salary range: $80,000 to $130,000 per year. Experience level: 5 to 8 years.

What you’ll build

• Working software, automations, integrations, dashboards, and AI-enabled workflows that support finance and accounting, planning and logistics, contract and customer intelligence, and commercial enablement.
• Secure AI workflows with permissions, human review, audit logs, source grounding, and clear operating controls.
• Internal tools and solutions using relational and NoSQL databases and enterprise platforms such as Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Graph API, Power Platform, Azure, and ERP/business system integrations.
• APIs, scripts, dashboards, and integrations that translate operational knowledge into repeatable systems.

How you’ll work

• Partner directly with business users to understand processes, decisions, data, pain points, and opportunities.
• Translate operational knowledge into clear requirements, technical designs, and production-ready solutions.
• Create reusable patterns for requirements, architecture, testing, deployment, monitoring, documentation, and feedback.
• Take ownership of selected existing tools, improving reliability, documentation, monitoring, and supportability.
• Work with IT on platform operations, including access governance, observability, and reliability.
• Collaborate with Transformation and department leaders to prioritize work tied to measurable business outcomes.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

Experience & requirements

• 5 to 8 years of experience in software engineering, systems integration, data engineering, business systems, internal tools, or IT automation.
• Strong SQL skills with experience using relational and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, C#, or another practical production language.
• Experience building APIs, scripts, automations, dashboards, integrations, or internal applications.
• Experience with Azure and familiarity with GitHub or modern source control.
• Practical understanding of authentication, permissions, logging, monitoring, deployment, documentation, and production support.
• Manufacturing, logistics, finance operations, ERP, industrial operations, or supply chain experience preferred.
• Data modeling, Docker, CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, or AI/LLM workflow experience a plus.
