FileMaker Pro Application Developer

The Application Developer position at Taubensee Steel & Wire Co. is an onsite role based in Wheeling, IL. You will support and evolve multiple departmental applications, including replacements and new solutions, with a focus on FileMaker Pro/Server and web-enabled development and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Learn existing company processes and the software applications used across departments.
• Consult with end users to understand required functionality and define system requirements.
• Recommend enhancements, modifications, and additional functionality based on user needs and operational feedback.
• Evaluate current and emerging programming languages, hardware, and software options to identify viable applications.
• Create work plans and time schedules for computing projects, including phases and hardware/software requirements.
• Track project progress and adjust schedules and plans as needed.
• Write new code and modify existing program code and job control languages to support departmental systems.
• Document program code, job processes, program modifications, and relevant system procedures and user guidelines.
• Develop training materials and provide training to users.
• Troubleshoot application system issues and implement corrections or modifications to restore functionality.
• Build smaller ad-hoc software solutions and provide support when requested.
• Advise on selection and procurement of future departmental hardware and software needs.
• Support current software applications and assist with troubleshooting of hardware and software problems.
• Continuously seek opportunities to strengthen knowledge and skills relevant to the role and potential future career development.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in application development and support.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field.
• In-depth expertise and direct experience with modern application architectures, program development methodologies, and tools, including MS SQL, HTML, PHP, FileMaker Pro/Server, ODBC, and Visual Studio.
• Expert-level experience integrating applications with enterprise-level systems.
• In-depth experience with database design, implementation, maintenance, security, and performance tuning using Flat File, FileMaker, and MS SQL databases.
• Demonstrated ability to elicit and compile user needs and create functional and technical specifications for complex integrated systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including translating technical concepts for non-technical staff.
• Ability to provide general in-person and over-the-phone troubleshooting support for Mac / PC / Windows Embedded or Windows Mobile operating systems.
• Knowledge of Business Basic BBx / BBj programming platform is a plus.
• Working knowledge of UNIX / Linux / Mac OS X / Windows operating systems.
• Strong interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills.
• Strong customer service and customer relations skills.

Location and Compensation

Salary: USD 80,000 - 85,000 per year
