Job Description

Textron Inc. is hiring an IT Custom Developer II in Providence, RI (onsite). In this role, you will design and deliver custom software solutions and GenAI-enabled applications that support innovative technology projects. You will work closely with business stakeholders and IT teams, applying software engineering, data science, and machine learning principles to build solutions aligned to real operational needs.

What you’ll do

  • Design, develop, test, and support custom software applications and GenAI solutions based on business requirements and technical specifications.
  • Help implement GenAI-enabled applications and services, including prompt orchestration, API integration, and solution configuration.
  • Support architectural design for scalable, secure, and maintainable custom applications and AI-powered solutions, aligning to enterprise standards and integration patterns.
  • Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to integrate data, services, and workflows into custom applications and GenAI solutions.
  • Support deployment, releases, and operational readiness for production environments using DevOps and software engineering best practices.
  • Monitor performance, identify opportunities for optimization, and troubleshoot issues across components, integrations, and user experiences.
  • Participate in test case development, quality assurance, and bug fixing for both custom software and AI solutions.
  • Use version control (for example, Git) to manage code changes and collaborate with other developers.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including code comments, solution designs, user guides, process flows, and support documentation.
  • Join code reviews, sprint planning, and team meetings; help manage priorities and deliverables as assigned.

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in custom application development, software engineering, AI/ML engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Proficiency in Python and C#, with foundational knowledge of other languages (for example, Java, JavaScript).
  • Familiarity with web development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and/or desktop application frameworks.
  • Experience with AI/ML libraries such as NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
  • Understanding of cloud-native architecture and AI/MLOps practices, especially Azure (basic knowledge of AWS, GCP, and Kubernetes is a plus).
  • Basic understanding of database structures and ability to write simple SQL queries.
  • Experience with data preprocessing, feature engineering, and exploratory data analysis.
  • Familiarity with Git and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, and willingness to learn and adapt.
  • Prior internship or project experience in software development or AI/ML projects is a plus.
