Job Description

Technical lead and architect accountable for the development, maintenance, integration, and evolution of the Parks Conservancy’s digital platforms and web properties; this hybrid role requires three days per week on-site at Fort Mason and reports to the Director of Technology Strategy and Data Insights.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical lead for the organization’s web platforms, ensuring performance, security, and scalability.
  • Oversee the existing codebase, develop new features, and propose enhancements.
  • Act as a hands-on application architect, designing and implementing scalable digital solutions aligned with needs and best practices.
  • Lead integration of core systems such as CRM, donor management, and analytics platforms, ensuring data flow and interoperability.
  • Manage vendor relationships, external development efforts, and support contracts to deliver high-quality technical outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain integrations between web properties and third-party platforms via APIs and data feeds.
  • Oversee web analytics, produce custom reports, and train staff on data insights to support strategic decisions.
  • Build and maintain responsive web experiences across devices, including custom microsites and email templates; focus on technical implementation (coding, platform configuration, cross-device compatibility) rather than design or content.
  • Implement web security best practices and ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Provide training to staff on content management, CRM, and project management tools as needed.
  • Perform duties as assigned to support IT operations and organizational priorities.
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned to support branch and organizational goals.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of progressive experience in technology and data management.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement technology strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Strong web development background with PHP, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, and responsive design.
  • Experience with Drupal 7, 8, and 10, including customization and security best practices.
  • Hands-on application architecture experience, designing scalable and maintainable digital solutions.
  • Solid project management skills, including leading complex technical projects from planning to execution.
  • Vendor management experience, coordinating external developers and reviewing technical deliverables.
  • Knowledge of Linux and Windows domain environments.
  • Experience with Blackbaud CRM and related donor management tools.
  • Familiarity with web analytics platforms, including Google Analytics, and the ability to create meaningful reports.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities and a proactive approach to addressing challenges.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.

Education and Experience

  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field is required.
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in technology and data management.

Physical Requirements and Work Environments

  • The position is based at the Parks Conservancy headquarters in Fort Mason, San Francisco, with a hybrid work arrangement requiring at least three days on-site per week.
  • Primarily seated or standing at a desk for 6-8 hours per day.
  • Regular travel to Parks Conservancy locations and partner sites across the San Francisco Bay Area.
  • Occasional lifting or carrying of equipment or materials up to 20 pounds.

Salary

  • Annual salary of $130,000 (Grade 25). The organization will hire at the posted salary and will not offer above this amount.
