Job Description

Tilladelse is seeking a Lead Developer to shape the technical direction of web projects for Senior Living clients in an agency setting. In this onsite role in Olympia, WA, you will lead architecture, deliver custom WordPress development, and help ensure long-term stability across both new builds and legacy codebases.

You will also act as the agency’s WordPress technical SME, partnering with the team on feasibility and scope while converting Figma designs into responsive, production-ready WordPress themes and components.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the agency technical SME for WordPress development, site architecture, and code quality.
  • Plan architecture for new website builds, custom features, and system integrations.
  • Provide accurate technical estimates for project scope, effort, and feasibility.
  • Mentor and guide junior developers through code reviews to strengthen team standards and technical growth.
  • Translate custom Figma designs and design systems into responsive WordPress themes and components.
  • Build and maintain custom WordPress themes, plugins, and PHP components using Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles.
  • Construct sites primarily with Bricks Builder, supplemented by custom-coded solutions, while maintaining legacy codebases.
  • Build and manage API integrations with external systems, including CRMs.
  • Build and audit sites for ADA / WCAG 2.2 compliance and accessibility best practices.
  • Manage hosting and workflows using WP Engine, local development in Local, and version control with Git/GitHub.
  • Oversee DNS management across multiple domains and configure transactional email via external SMTP providers (for example, Mailgun).
  • Continuously optimize sites for speed, technical SEO standards, cross-browser performance, and security.

Required Experience

  • 5+ years of WordPress development experience, including demonstrated lead or senior-level technical responsibilities.
  • Mastery of PHP (including OOP and WordPress-specific APIs), JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS/SCSS.
  • Experience converting Figma designs into production-ready web builds.
  • Deep familiarity with Bricks Builder, including custom block/template creation, page templating, and legacy theme architectures.
  • Experience building and maintaining custom WordPress plugins.
  • Hands-on experience with Git/GitHub, WP Engine, Local, DNS configuration, and SMTP setup.
  • Practical understanding of WCAG accessibility guidelines.
  • Clear technical communication, patience in mentoring junior talent, strong analytical problem-solving skills, and time management.
