Data Engineer III
Job Description
Blue Origin’s Operations Supply Chain Data Modeling team is hiring a Data Engineer III to design foundational Databricks data models that support supply chain analytics and internal AWS-hosted applications.
Role Overview
In this position, you will ingest upstream ET-provided data, apply supply chain business logic and data quality rules, and maintain trusted data models that act as a single source of truth for the Supply Chain organization. You will also build data products and semantic layers that enable self-serve metrics for analysts and business users.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain core supply chain data models in Databricks, using ET-provided data as the foundation for widely used data assets across the Supply Chain organization.
- Implement supply chain-specific transformations, business logic, and data quality rules to deliver accurate, trusted, and reusable models for downstream consumers.
- Create and maintain data products and semantic layers that support self-serve metrics and insights without requiring deep technical assistance.
- Contribute to AWS-hosted internal web applications that present supply chain models through dashboards, KPIs, and operational tools.
- Collaborate with ET data platform teams and supply chain stakeholders to define data contracts, onboard new data needs, participate in code reviews, and establish team modeling standards.
- Use GitLab for version control and CI/CD, VS Code as the primary development environment, and AI-assisted tooling to improve modeling and pipeline development velocity.
- Monitor pipeline and model health to support availability, performance, and discoverability of supply chain data models.
Minimum Requirements
- 3+ years of experience building and operating production data pipelines and data models.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL.
- Experience with Databricks or similar lakehouse platforms for dimensional or data modeling and transformation.
- Experience integrating with upstream source systems (ERP, transactional databases, or similar) and managing schema and data contract changes.
- Experience with AWS cloud services, including S3, Lambda, Glue, RDS, and ECS (examples listed).
- Familiarity with Git-based version control and CI/CD pipelines, with GitLab preferred.
- Strong understanding of data warehousing and modeling concepts, including dimensional modeling, medallion architecture, and slowly changing dimensions.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), due to access to export-controlled data.
