Data Engineer II
Job Description
Kind Lending, LLC is seeking a Data Engineer II to design, build, and maintain data pipelines, data models, and integrations that support its Snowflake data platform. This role focuses on governed Bronze/Silver/Gold ingestion and transformation, reliable CDC-based replication, and collaboration with BI to enable Power BI reporting.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines that ingest data from source systems into Snowflake using a governed Bronze/Silver/Gold medallion architecture.
- Build and maintain CDC-based replication and ingestion pipelines (for example, OpenFlow, Fivetran, or comparable tools) to bring operational source data into the data platform on schedule.
- Write and optimize SQL in Snowflake, including stored procedures, views, and scheduled tasks to transform raw data into clean, business-ready datasets.
- Develop Python-based scripts, automation, and integrations to support ingestion, transformation, monitoring, and governance workflows.
- Design and maintain dimensional and semantic data models, including fact and dimension tables, star schema structures, and surrogate keys for reporting and self-service analytics.
- Partner with BI developers to create semantic-layer views that power Power BI dashboards, with business logic maintained in the data platform rather than DAX.
- Monitor pipeline health and data quality by implementing observability and logging across ingestion and transformation layers, then troubleshoot issues as needed.
- Integrate third-party systems and APIs (such as Jira and other ticketing or operational platforms) into the data warehouse to centralize reporting.
- Document data pipelines, data models, and processes with clear technical documentation for the broader team.
- Collaborate with the Data & Business Intelligence team on platform governance, security, and access management best practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 4 to 6+ years of experience in a data engineering or similar data platform role.
- Strong SQL skills and hands-on experience with Snowflake or another cloud data warehouse (Redshift, BigQuery, or Synapse).
- Proficiency in Python for scripting, automation, and data pipeline development.
- Experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines and CDC-based data replication (such as OpenFlow, Fivetran, or similar tools).
- Solid understanding of data modeling concepts, including medallion (Bronze/Silver/Gold) architecture, star schema, and dimensional modeling.
- Familiarity with Power BI or a similar BI tool, including how upstream data models support dashboards and reporting.
- Experience using Jira or similar ticketing or project tracking tools to manage and document engineering work.
- Comfort working with version control (Git) and applying general software engineering best practices.
- Mortgage, lending, or financial services industry experience is a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Team player mentality with willingness to work in a fast-paced environment while supporting Kind Culture.
