Job Description
Staff Benefits Management and Administrators offers a hybrid, San Diego based opportunity for an Application Developer II with a salary range of USD 110,000 to 140,000 per year. In this role you will design, develop, and support scalable web applications, APIs, and databases while collaborating across teams and mentoring junior developers, under the guidance of the Application Engineering Team Lead.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the design and development of .NET Core applications with rich UI/UX using Telerik UI for ASP.NET Core, MVC, or Razor Pages.
- Develop and maintain web applications and APIs using .NET Core, C#, and modern JavaScript frameworks.
- Create and optimize stored procedures, functions, and indexes in Microsoft SQL Server.
- Support integrations with external systems such as Salesforce and Microsoft Dynamics 365 (Business Central).
- Establish and maintain CI/CD pipelines and Azure based application services.
- Monitor SQL Server Agent jobs and proactively resolve failures.
- Assist with backup and restore processes for development and test databases.
- Perform basic performance tuning and analyze execution plans.
- Ensure both application and database components meet performance and security standards.
- Participate in Agile team ceremonies and collaborate across departments.
- Work with the Solution Architecture Team to evaluate and implement application solutions.
- Mentor junior developers and share knowledge through onboarding, mentoring, and training sessions.
- Document application systems and database processes with accuracy and completeness.
- Support cross-training initiatives within the Application Engineering team.
- Engage in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers.
- Attend regular one-on-one meetings with team leadership to receive feedback and guidance.
- Contribute to quarterly planning discussions and share input on technical feasibility.
- Communicate technical challenges and solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Support team communication during high-volume seasons, critical projects, or rapid growth.
- Participate in Agile / SCRUM planning and daily stand-up discussions.
- Contribute to remote-friendly team-building activities to foster cohesion and collaboration.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry best practices relevant to healthcare and employee benefits systems.
Requirements
- UI Controls: Hands-on experience with Telerik or similar third-party UI controls to enhance user interfaces.
- Backend Development: Strong proficiency in C# and .NET including .NET Core, ASP.NET MVC/Razor Pages, and Web APIs.
- Frontend Development: Solid skills in JavaScript, jQuery, Razor Pages, and React for dynamic, responsive applications.
- Cloud Services: Experience with Azure, including Azure App Services for scalable deployments.
- Agile Methodologies: Familiarity with Scrum and Kanban to participate in iterative development.
- Version Control: Proficiency with Git and Azure DevOps for code management and collaboration.
- Database Management: Deep knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, including query tuning, stored procedures, and job scheduling, plus experience with Entity Framework Core, LINQ, and Dapper.
- Data Visualization: Experience with SSRS, Power BI, or Telerik Reporting to create meaningful reports.

- Mentoring: Ability to mentor junior team members and share knowledge with peers.
