Web Developer

Remote Web Developer role focused on building and maintaining secure, scalable web platforms for public websites, e-commerce back-end systems, and integrations.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain WordPress sites, custom PHP/Laravel applications, and middleware services with scalable architecture and clean code practices
• Build and manage secure API integrations, including service design and implementation between CRMs, fundraising systems, and marketing tools
• Design and develop custom web applications, internal tools, and backend systems from the ground up
• Create standalone web applications using modern JavaScript frameworks when PHP/WordPress is not the right fit
• Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions, including data models and system designs
• Own end-to-end integration development: data flows, transformation logic, orchestration, and failure handling
• Support and extend e-commerce platforms, including:
  • Managing webhooks and background jobs
  • Payment flows and gateways, including subscriptions and coupons
  • Tax and shipping rules
  • Error handling and retries, fraud checks, and reconciliation and reporting
  • Security compliance
• Implement and monitor analytics, event tracking, and marketing tags, including Meta Pixel and Conversions API
• Manage DNS and email reputation settings to support campaign deliverability: SPF, DKIM, DMARC
• Support SharePoint Online and PowerApps projects as needed
• Troubleshoot and resolve tier 3 production issues quickly and effectively
• Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver new features, templates, and site improvements
• Participate in code reviews, maintain version control standards, and document development processes
• Research and recommend improvements to tools, frameworks, and workflows
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• 4+ years of relevant experience
• Degree in Computer Science, information technology, or equivalent experience
• Relevant professional certifications are a plus
• Ability to provide code samples or a portfolio showing applications built from scratch
• Strong PHP proficiency with production-grade experience (Laravel preferred), including deep Laravel ecosystem knowledge:
  • Eloquent ORM, queues, jobs, events, middleware, APIs, service container
• Proficiency in a modern JavaScript framework, with Next.js strongly preferred (React or Vue acceptable), including component architecture, API routes, and server-side rendering concepts
• Front-end skills in HTML, CSS (SCSC/SASS), and vanilla JavaScript, plus basic Node.js where applicable
• Proven ability to build applications and systems from scratch
• Experience designing database schemas, writing optimized queries, and handling complex datasets in SQL/MySQL
• Experience with e-commerce, shopping cart technologies, and payment service providers or gateways
• Hands-on experience configuring SharePoint lists, libraries, and permissions, plus building basic Power Automate flows
• Proficient with Git/GitHub, including branching strategies, pull requests, and code review workflows
• Experience with automated testing practices and CI/CD deployment pipelines
• Knowledge of email infrastructure and deliverability best practices: DNS, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, bounce handling
• Good grasp of web security, performance, accessibility, and SEO fundamentals
• Ability to translate technical issues for nontechnical audiences
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and proactive mindset
• Clear communicator and effective collaborator across teams
• Experience providing tier 3 support for unexpected interface behavior or back-end code defects
• Knowledge of building and integrating APIs, REST patterns, and secure webhooks
• Strong understanding of backend architecture patterns and API design (RESTful and/or event-driven)
• Knowledge of serverless approaches such as Netlify Functions or Cloudflare Workers
• Knowledge of hosting environments and servers, DNS, SFTP/FTP, SSL, and CDNs
• Knowledge and working experience with WordPress and site builders
• Ability to work across the stack with a backend-heavy focus and modern development practices
• Ability to interface with technical and nontechnical staff at all organizational levels
