Sr. Software Engineer, Factory Software
Job Description
Tesla seeks a Senior Software Engineer to join its Factory Software team, building robust backend systems that scale to power modern manufacturing. This onsite role in Fremont, California, with potential opportunities in Austin, Texas, centers on strong backend fundamentals and hands-on work on large enterprise projects, including recent experience with Go.
Responsibilities
- Deliver reliable, maintainable backend code that addresses real world manufacturing challenges.
- Drive end-to-end initiatives—from requirements gathering and architecture to implementation, testing, and production rollout.
- Mentor peers and promote high standards of software craftsmanship across teams.
- Prioritize production-critical systems with solid validation, monitoring, and ongoing support.
- Collaborate with Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain to align solutions with business needs.
- Participate in on-call rotations no more than once every two months.
- Engage directly with stakeholders to define requirements, scope, and implementation plans.
Requirements
- Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience; 8+ years preferred.
- At least 1 year of recent experience with Go.
- Proven track record delivering large-scale projects in Go, Java, C++, Rust, or similar languages.
- Strong foundation in backend development fundamentals, including SQL, networking, and security.
- Comfort with frontend technologies (HTML, JavaScript, CSS) and at least one modern framework (React, Angular, Svelte) for full-stack work (1–2 years of recent experience).
- Proficiency in rigorous software development practices, including version control, code reviews, CI/CD, monitoring, and logging.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead technical initiatives from concept to production.

Compensation
Expected Compensation: $168,000 - $252,000 per year, plus cash and stock awards and additional benefits. Pay may vary based on location, knowledge, skills, and experience. Details of participation in benefit plans will be shared if an offer is made.
