Job Description

Smyansoft is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to help deliver maintainable, production-critical software for manufacturing use cases. This onsite role in Fremont, CA focuses on end-to-end delivery, connecting factory floor systems to MES services, and guiding engineers through technical execution in a globally distributed environment.

Role Focus

  • Build and deliver high-quality, maintainable code for real-world manufacturing challenges
  • Lead end-to-end projects, from requirements gathering and architectural design through implementation, testing, and production deployment
  • Bridge communication gaps between factory floor equipment (such as PLCs) and higher-level MES (Manufacturing Execution System) services
  • Mentor engineers and support global standards of software craftsmanship
  • Work across the stack, including troubleshooting packet loss in PLC communications and ensuring data consistency in large-scale, globally distributed databases

Collaboration and Operations

  • Prioritize robust, production-critical systems with strong validation, monitoring, and support mechanisms
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain
  • Participate in on-call rotations no more than once every two months

Requirements

  • Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 4 years of professional experience (6+ years preferred)
  • Proven experience implementing large-scale projects using Go, Java, C++, Rust, or similar languages
  • Strong backend fundamentals, including SQL databases, networking, and security
  • Basic familiarity with frontend technologies (HTML, JavaScript, CSS) and at least one modern framework such as React, Angular, or Svelte for full-stack integration
  • Experience with rigorous development practices including version control, code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and logging
  • Excellent communication skills and a demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives from concept to production
  • Familiarity with controls engineering concepts, manufacturing processes, and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs); hands-on experience with Ignition and MES systems is a plus
