Sr Machine Learning Engineer, ML Systems Engineering - Proactive

Apple is hiring a Sr Machine Learning Engineer to build Proactive Intelligence with machine learning and agentic AI for personalized experiences across Apple devices.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and evaluate data and machine learning systems that use multimodal inputs for production.
• Plan and execute experiments to debug and optimize agentic machine learning applications.
• Build scalable automated processes for evaluation and monitoring.
• Support a team culture focused on respect, empowerment, and growth.
• Maintain engineering best practices to move quickly with confidence.
• Keep user experience as a primary focus and use storytelling to communicate complex ideas.
• Develop new tools and techniques to improve how problems are approached and solved.
• Ship reliable software that customers depend on every day.

Requirements

• Experience shipping machine learning and agentic systems with a strong software engineering foundation.
• Experience designing, implementing, and evaluating data and ML systems using multimodal inputs for production.
• Ability to plan and conduct experiments, and to debug and optimize agentic machine learning applications.
• Comfort asking questions and working collaboratively to teach and learn.
• 4+ years building production machine learning systems.
• MS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Python proficiency.
• Proficiency in at least one compiled language: C, C++, Objective-C, Swift, Go, Java, Kotlin, C#, or Rust.

Preferred Qualifications

• Production experience training, deploying, and evaluating autonomous agentic systems.
• Production experience working with ML pipelines and large datasets.
• Experience in resource-constrained computing (for example, embedded systems or mobile development).
• Ability to use AI agent assistance effectively as part of software development workflows.
