Machine Learning Engineer, System Experience - Proactive

As a Machine Learning Engineer on Apple’s System Experience team, you will help bring on-device personal search technologies into apps across Apple platforms. The role focuses on building reusable system architectures and developer-facing APIs while working with cross-functional partners to improve performance and maintain on-device user privacy.

What You’ll Do

• Integrate on-device personal search technologies with system applications across iOS, macOS, and other Apple platforms.
• Design and build reusable software architectures, frameworks, and developer-facing APIs intended for long-term scalability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional machine learning, OS framework, and services teams to adapt and optimize solutions for mobile constraints.
• Combine multi-system data streams to deliver unified search experiences while safeguarding user privacy on-device.
• Evaluate system trade-offs and apply profiling and runtime performance analysis to support responsive user experiences.

Required Qualifications

• Experience designing public or system-level APIs and developer frameworks.
• Experience profiling, diagnosing, and optimizing system-level mobile software performance.
• Familiarity with machine learning principles or large language model fundamentals.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 4+ years of application development experience using Swift, Objective-C, or an equivalent high-level programming language on iOS or macOS.
• Experience developing search systems, including indexing and retrieval technologies.
• Experience collaborating cross-functionally and communicating technical concepts to diverse teams.

Salary & Pay Range

The base pay range for this role is between $150,400 and $277,600 per yearly.
