Job Description

United Utility Services, LLC is seeking a Sr. Data Engineer for an onsite role in Spring, TX. This is a hands-on architect and builder position focused on designing, building, and operationalizing a 100% cloud, Microsoft-centric enterprise data platform that unifies vendor-hosted data for governed analytics, self-service reporting, and future AI initiatives.

Role Summary

In this role, you will own end-to-end outcomes while unifying disparate vendor-hosted data sources for governed analytics, self-service reporting, and future AI initiatives. The work centers on implementing core data architecture components and delivering practical solutions that translate business and operational needs into usable data models and datasets.

Responsibilities

  • Design and personally implement core components of the enterprise data architecture using Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Warehouse, OneLake) and Azure data services.
  • Build and maintain data ingestion and transformation pipelines integrating data from multiple SaaS and vendor-hosted systems.
  • Develop enterprise data models (conceptual, logical, physical) that support reporting and operational use cases.
  • Enable analytics and self-service reporting through Power BI, Power Platform, and Dataverse.
  • Apply strong SQL skills across data modeling, transformations, query optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • Build reliable data pipelines using Python, APIs, cloud storage, and modern data integration tools.
  • Work with cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, Azure SQL/Synapse/Fabric, BigQuery, Redshift, or similar environments.
  • Handle structured and semi-structured sources including REST APIs, JSON, CSV, Excel, databases, and SaaS exports.
  • Use transformation, orchestration, and integration tools such as dbt, Airbyte, Fivetran, Dagster, Airflow, GitHub Actions, or similar platforms.
  • Follow Git-based development workflows and basic software engineering practices.
  • Apply interest in AI-enabled analytics, automation, and internal tools, including practical use of AI coding assistants and LLM-based workflows.
  • Support business intelligence and reporting, with experience in Power BI (data modeling, Power Query, DAX, dashboard development, and performance tuning).
  • Work with Microsoft Power Platform capabilities including Power Apps, Power Automate, and Dataverse.
  • Design and implement analytics-ready data models optimized for reporting and performance.
  • Build and maintain Power BI datasets, semantic models, and shared data sources supporting operational reporting, financial and performance reporting, and executive dashboards.
  • Ensure reports are sourced from governed, consistent datasets to reduce duplication and conflicting metrics.
  • Partner with business users and analysts to understand reporting requirements and translate them into data models and reusable datasets.
  • Improve report performance, reliability, and refresh stability through modeling, aggregation strategies, and Fabric/Azure SQL optimization.
  • Define a practical, phased enterprise data strategy aligned to business priorities, balancing scalability, cost, and usability through architectural standards.
  • Implement data governance practices including data ownership and stewardship models, data quality rules and monitoring, and metadata, documentation, and lineage standards.
  • Coordinate with IT security to ensure security, access control, and compliance requirements are met.
  • Partner with IT, Finance, Operations, and business leaders to ensure data solutions are usable and trusted.
  • Act as a technical authority on enterprise data decisions and provide light mentorship as data practices mature.

Requirements

  • 7+ years in data architecture, data engineering, or analytics architecture roles.
