Sr. Data Engineer
Job Description
The Hartford seeks a Senior Data Engineer to design and implement scalable analytics software and to lead data integration initiatives, leveraging AWS cloud and big data technologies. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop high quality, scalable software modules for the next generation analytics solution suite.
- Prototype high impact innovations, leveraging new technologies (AWS Cloud and Big Data) to address evolving business needs.
- Apply functional knowledge and skills reflecting a competent practitioner capable of delivering work with high technical complexity.
- Consult with functional management to analyze short and long-range business requirements and recommend innovations anticipating future needs.
- Collaborate with client management to identify and specify complex business requirements and processes across diverse development platforms, computing environments, software, hardware, technologies, and tools.
- Provide highly technical consulting and leadership in identifying and implementing new uses of information technologies to support strategic objectives.
- Review disaster recovery plans to ensure new systems promote uninterrupted operation.
- Coordinate activities with cross-functional IT stakeholders, including database, operations, telecommunications, and technical support teams.
- Research and evaluate alternative solutions and recommend the most efficient and cost-effective designs for systems.
- Formulate logical statements of business problems and devise, test, and implement efficient, cost-effective application solutions, reusing existing code or integrating purchased solutions as appropriate.
- Prepare charts, tables, and diagrams to aid in problem analysis using various business, scientific, engineering, and mathematical techniques.
- Analyze existing systems and programming logic to optimize performance and revise logic and procedures as needed.
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for interaction with cross-functional units and teams.
- Assign personnel to projects or components and direct their activities.
- Review, evaluate, and prepare periodic activity and progress reports for the team.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
- 5 years of experience in ETL.
- 5 years of experience in Data Integration.
- 5 years of experience in Informatica.
- 5 years of experience in IDMC.
- 2 years of experience in Cloud (AWS) technologies.
- 2 years of experience in Oracle.
- 2 years of experience in SQL.
- 2 years of experience in Python.
- 2 years of experience in PySpark.
- 2 years of experience in Unix/Linux Shell scripting.
- 2 years of experience in Autosys scheduling tool.
- 2 years of experience in version control tools.
- 2 years of experience in data warehouse applications.
- 2 years of experience in data modeling.
- 2 years of experience in Big Data distributed processing (HDFS, Hive, Spark).
- 2 years of experience in data analytics languages.

Compensation
Salary Range: $147,430.00 to $170,040 per year.
The listed annual base pay range reflects market analysis of similar roles in the external job market. Actual base pay may vary above or below the stated range based on factors such as experience, proficiency, and demonstrated competencies for the role.
Base pay is one component of The Hartford's total compensation package, which may also include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
