Software Engineer Tech Lead

Rad Hires is hiring a Software Engineer Tech Lead for a hybrid role based in Jersey City, NJ. In this position, you will lead engineering efforts to strengthen platform stability, performance, and scalability within a high-traffic e-commerce ticketing environment.

Role Summary

You will oversee a product squad focused on platform refinement and measurable business outcomes. The role includes driving technical initiatives with cross-functional partners, improving the ticketing system through targeted innovations, and exploring GenAI technologies to enhance platform capabilities and optimize business processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead a product squad centered on technical stability and delivery of key business outcomes through continuous platform improvement.
• Work with business stakeholders to define solutions that improve user experience while meeting financial objectives.
• Design and implement technical innovations that increase the functionality and efficiency of the ticketing system.
• Explore and integrate GenAI technologies to strengthen platform capabilities and optimize business workflows.
• Apply data infrastructure investments to maximize platform performance and scalability.
• Advance platform observability to monitor performance proactively and reduce downtime.
• Review and optimize platform integrations to support scaling goals and maintain operational efficiency.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to encourage a collaborative team environment.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code to support long-term reliability.
• Manage and prioritize the backlog so technical improvements align with business objectives and deliver measurable impact.

Requirements

• Experience in a high-traffic e-commerce environment with a focus on scalable and performant systems.
• Expertise in data engineering, platform optimization, and system integration.
• Experience integrating GenAI and working with large-scale, data-intensive systems.
• Strong knowledge of performance profiling, design patterns, and engineering best practices.
• Proficiency in core technologies including Java, Python, or TypeScript.
• Proven ability to lead teams and collaborate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.
• Strong interest in building scalable, maintainable, and efficient systems.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain technical solutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Interview Process

• 10/15-minute phone call with the recruiter to confirm HR answers, discuss company culture, and review the interview process.
• 30-minute video call with the VP of Engineering, focusing on behavioral questions and light technical questions.
• 1-hour coding interview (via Coderpad) with 2 Software Engineers. You will solve a real-world problem, write code, and explain your solution in terms of time and space complexity.
• 1-hour coding interview (via Coderpad) with 2 Software Engineers in a similar format using a different test.
• 90-minute onsite with the VP of Engineering and 1 Senior Software Engineer. You will address a real-world business challenge, explain your problem-solving approach from a product and business perspective, translate ideas into actionable steps by writing sample tickets, and participate in Q&A.

Salary Range

$180,000 - $210,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
