Job Description
Store No. 8 is seeking a Software Engineer III to lead scalable software design and development in Bentonville, AR (onsite). In this role, you will collaborate across product, project, business, and user experience teams, troubleshoot complex production issues, and guide small engineering teams through delivery from requirements to deployment.
Role Overview
Lead the design and development of scalable software solutions with cross-functional partners. Apply root cause analysis to troubleshoot complex production issues, then drive coordinated action plans to implement durable fixes. Manage delivery workstreams from requirements through coding, testing, and deployment while aligning outcomes with business and technical expectations.
Responsibilities
- Partner with product, project, business, and user experience teams to define high-level design and technical solutions for projects.
- Develop, test, and maintain code while meeting business and technical requirements, including security and scalability standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production and business issues using root cause analysis and coordinated action plans.
- Lead small engineering teams by providing guidance, documentation, and timelines to support successful project delivery.
- Create and execute test cases, perform defect analysis, and support continuous integration and deployment processes.
- Monitor application performance, implement telemetry, and drive improvements to sustain system reliability and efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- Proven expertise in object-oriented programming and software design principles.
- Strong technical acumen with experience in platform design, API development, and component services.
- Proficiency in iterative and incremental development methodologies and continuous integration and deployment practices.
- Ability to conduct root cause analysis and troubleshoot complex production issues effectively.
- Experience applying coding standards, debugging, and documentation-based coding practices.
- Familiarity with emerging technologies including generative artificial intelligence.
- Demonstrated capability delivering scoped features and managing small to large-sized projects.
- Skills in developing automated scripts and implementing telemetry for application monitoring.
- Essential expertise in Java; Big Data related technologies including Spark; working knowledge of GCP or Azure; and Kafka.

Team and Operating Model
- Acts as the primary technical liaison between Level 1 Support and Core Engineering (Level 3) to improve turnaround times for support queries requiring engineering input.
- Focuses on incident resolution, SLA adherence, and minimizing unplanned work for engineering teams.
- Operates globally across markets including the US, international regions, and Sam’s Club, emphasizing clear ownership, defined SLAs, and outcome-based metrics aligned with Walmart’s operational excellence standards.
- Supports problem management and operational readiness for efficient and reliable service delivery.

Minimum Qualifications
- Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related area and 2 years of experience in software engineering or a related area.
- Option 2: 4 years of experience in software engineering or a related area.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related area.
- Background creating inclusive digital experiences and knowledge of implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility.
- Knowledge of accessibility best practices aligned with Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines for an inclusive culture.
- Master’s: Computer Science.
