Job Description

The Software Engineer II in TechOps at Home Depot is responsible for maintaining application stability, enabling proactive operational readiness, and guiding AI driven incident management across the company’s marketing and IT ecosystems. The role designs and implements AI powered solutions, leads onboarding and training efforts, and converts support telemetry into actionable insights to ensure day one stakeholder success.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the design, development, and deployment of AI driven solutions and ML models to boost proactive anomaly detection, automate root cause analysis, and enable self healing issue resolution.
  • Oversees the centralized intake workflow for L1/L2/L3 support to triage, troubleshoot, and remediate advanced application level tickets, reducing MTTR and shielding stakeholders from complex platform errors.
  • Partners with core engineering to build application specific health validation pipelines and monitors active data flows to isolate data mapping anomalies before they impact downstream execution.
  • Acts as the operational onboarding partner for new IT capabilities, producing essential technical documentation including system diagrams, data dictionaries, job schedules, and API mappings to ensure day one platform supportability.
  • Leads the creation and delivery of technical product training to onboard new teams, focusing on user interface navigation, deep configuration rules, and platform capabilities.
  • Conducts blameless post mortems and translates support telemetry into actionable engineering backlogs to drive permanent platform improvements and track product level SLOs.
  • Develops custom code, scripts, and automated ticketing paths to streamline workflows, optimize event monitoring, and manage backend routing protocols between IT and business teams.
  • Directly operates, configures, and tunes complex homegrown tools, data products, and commercial off the shelf solutions where business self service capabilities are unavailable.
  • Seeks growth through formal and informal development channels, applying lessons learned from both successes and failures when addressing new problems.
  • Collaborates within agile processes, helps create improved practices for team success, communicates openly with diverse groups, and builds partnerships to achieve shared objectives.

Reporting Structure

This position typically reports to a Software Engineer Manager or Sr. Manager and has no direct reports.

Travel Requirements

Physical Requirements

Most tasks involve seated work with occasional light movement. There may be rare instances requiring lifting of light objects.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a comfortable indoor environment with infrequent, non disruptive conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in DevOps, SRE, TechOps, or Production Support Engineering.
  • Proficiency in an object oriented language (preferably Java) along with scripting languages used for automation and AI implementation (preferably Python or Bash).
  • Experience with modern debugging, root cause analysis, and log analysis techniques.
  • Experience with cloud computing infrastructure and CI/CD deployment pipelines.
  • Ability to write complex SQL queries and work with Relational or NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with application monitoring, logging, and observability tools such as Splunk, Datadog, New Relic, or Dynatrace.
  • Exposure to building or implementing AI/ML driven automation solutions or intelligent anomaly detection tools (AIOps).
  • Understanding of data engineering concepts, data pipelines, and debugging data mapping architectures.
  • Exposure to enterprise ticketing platforms (e.g., Jira Service Management, ServiceNow) and automated ticket routing or system APIs.
  • Experience in creating technical documentation, infrastructure diagrams, data dictionaries, or delivering technical training to end users.
  • Exposure to security frameworks for user authorization, authentication, and access protocols.
  • Experience with functional, integration, and destructive resilience testing.
  • Familiarity with Git or similar source control systems.

Minimum Education

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field.

Preferred Education

No additional education beyond the bachelor’s degree is required.

Minimum Years of Work Experience
