Software Engineer I

USAA is hiring a Software Engineer I in San Antonio, TX (onsite) to support the Enterprise by delivering software solutions across the application development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, code, and test complex technical solutions.
• Investigate and resolve complex application and system technical problems, including production issues, using troubleshooting techniques.
• Improve operational effectiveness by conducting complex systems analysis and recommending changes to policies and procedures.
• Prepare and install complex solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming.
• Follow the software development lifecycle from requirements through delivery.
• Participate in design reviews and develop key system design principles.
• Mentor junior engineers; may begin mentoring peer engineers.
• Review teammates’ code.
• Identify, measure, monitor, and control risks related to business activities in alignment with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What Sets You Apart

• 4 years of software development experience showing depth of technical understanding in specific discipline(s)/technology(s).
• 2 years delivering technology solutions across all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle, including leading code/design reviews.
• Proven experience supporting Operational Communication systems, including strong understanding of CCM in the context of enterprise content management.
• Familiarity with AI-driven solutions for content automation, personalization, and development.
• Basic understanding of one or more: Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C++, HTML, CSS, SQL, Go, Python.
• Developing level of business acumen in business operations, risk management, industry practices, and emerging trends.
• Experience supporting production issue resolution through troubleshooting applications and systems.
• Experience articulating technical challenges and solutions.
• Basic understanding of cloud technologies and tools.
• US military experience gained through military service, or gained as a military spouse/domestic partner.

Compensation

• Salary range: $93,770.00 - $179,240.00 (yearly).
• Paid within the range based on experience and market data for the position.
• Actual salary may vary by location.
• Pay incentives may be available based on overall corporate and individual performance, at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
