Software Engineer (C# and .Net)

Emergent Software is hiring a contract-to-hire Software Engineer to help build and support enterprise systems across microservices and shared platform components. This role uses the Microsoft technology stack and includes a hybrid schedule with onsite collaboration Tuesday through Thursday in the West suburbs of Minneapolis-Saint Paul, MN.

Role focus

• Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise applications, microservices, and shared platform components.
• Build and enhance features in core platform applications and shared NuGet packages used by downstream systems.
• Implement technical designs and platform improvements in collaboration with senior engineers and architects.
• Assess how code changes may impact dependent applications and services, raising concerns early.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-documented code with an emphasis on performance and reliability.
• Participate in code reviews, technical planning sessions, and design discussions.

Delivery and operations

• Develop and maintain automated tests to support code quality and stable releases.
• Support deployments and releases by following established CI/CD and change management practices.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues across interconnected enterprise systems.
• Collaborate with engineering, DevOps, product, and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.
• Participate in backlog refinement and help clarify requirements for Product Backlog Items (PBIs).

Ongoing improvement

• Stay current with modern .NET practices and share ideas for improvement with the team.

What you bring

• 3+ years of professional experience developing software using C# and .NET.
• Experience with modern .NET technologies, including ASP.NET Core.
• Experience developing and supporting applications in production environments.
• Working knowledge of SQL Server and Azure-based solutions.
• Exposure to microservices-based architectures.
• Understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, and REST API development.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Good communication skills and ability to work effectively within a collaborative team.
• Willingness to work onsite as a long-term commitment.
