Job Description

Aquila Technology is hiring a Software Engineer in Lexington, MA to build and maintain full-stack applications for bioanalytics, bioinformatics, and AI-driven data initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain full-stack applications supporting advanced bioanalytics and data-driven initiatives
  • Build scalable software, bioinformatics tools, and AI-driven solutions using complex biological datasets
  • Develop secure, reliable applications
  • Identify strategic implications of technical decisions and anticipate downstream impacts

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline OR bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience
  • 5 years full-stack software development
  • Excellent problem solving
  • Strong team communication plus strong written and verbal communication
  • Work successfully in a team environment (including collaborative work in small to medium sized teams)
  • 5 years schema definitions and data modeling for SQL databases
  • 5 years AWS development experience with:
    • S3, IAM, RDS, EC2, Systems Manager, CloudWatch
    • CloudFormation, ECR, EKS
  • 5 years software documentation
  • 5 years JavaScript/React
  • 5 years proficiency in modern Python (e.g., Flask, SQLAlchemy, boto3)
  • 5 years designing and developing cloud-based distributed systems with microservices
  • 5 years version control (Git/GitHub/GitLab)
  • Proven ability to identify strategic implications of technical decisions and proactively advise the development team on potential downstream impacts
  • 5+ years full-stack experience including:
    • Modern Python (Flask, SQLAlchemy, boto3) and JavaScript/React
    • Cloud-based distributed systems with microservices
    • Schema definitions and data modeling for SQL databases
    • AWS development experience (S3, IAM, RDS, EC2, Systems Manager, CloudWatch, CloudFormation, ECR, EKS)
    • Version control (Git/GitHub/GitLab)
    • Strong software documentation practices

Clearance

  • Interim clearance is sufficient to start with
  • An active clearance is highly preferred

Location and Work Schedule

  • 100% onsite due to the nature of the work
  • Must live within 100 miles of Lexington, MA
  • Onsite at least 4 days a week for the first year
  • After the first year, hybrid flexibility could be discussed; final schedule TBD by the hiring manager

Interview Process

  • 1st round: Zoom
  • 2nd round: onsite preferred if the candidate is local
  • If not local: Zoom interview for the next round

Benefits

  • PTO: 15 days (vacation/sick)

  • Cell Phone & Internet Reimbursement: up to $150 monthly (remote 2 days a week or more to qualify)
  • BYOD: reimbursement up to $1,500 every three years for eligible equipment used to access corporate services (requires 6 months employment and a signed Device Minimum Configuration Form)

Nice to Have

  • SQL database performance tuning and query optimization
  • Background in bioinformatics, genomics, or related life sciences data
  • Defining, debugging, and troubleshooting ETL/ELT pipelines and processes
  • Defining and managing workflows in k8s-based orchestration engines (i.e., Kubeflow)
