Job Description
RPM Innovations is hiring a Software Engineer to support its corporate facility in Rapid City, South Dakota on an onsite basis. In this role, you will help design, develop, modify, and verify software solutions, including software that interfaces with additive manufacturing equipment.
What you’ll do
- Develop software solutions by studying information needs, partnering with users, and analyzing system flow, data usage, and work processes through the software development lifecycle.
- Interface with and control additive manufacturing hardware such as lasers, motion controllers, motors, sensors, and drives.
- Analyze requirements across line-of-business, use case, and technical perspectives to build an integrated understanding of the additive manufacturing process.
- Create specifications and assess operational feasibility, then evaluate design feasibility within time and cost constraints.
- Design, develop, and modify software systems that provide predictable outcomes while ensuring designs provide for operator safety.
- Write well-designed, testable, efficient code aligned with SOLID principles.
- Update existing software to correct errors, support new hardware, and improve performance.
- Develop and execute software verification plans and quality assurance procedures including regression tests, code reviews, and design reviews.
- Demonstrate solutions meet requirements through documentation, such as flowcharts, layouts and diagrams, code comments and annotations, and clear maintainable code.
- Apply general programming and delivery skills including software design, debugging, testing, requirements and documentation specification, and agile methodologies.
- Execute full lifecycle software development as part of an interdisciplinary team, and improve operations using systems analysis and recommendations for policy or procedure changes.
- Coordinate software installation, integrating components into fully functional software systems.
- Monitor equipment function to help ensure specifications are met.
- Write operating manuals or communicate effectively with the manual writer.
- Obtain and license software by gathering vendor information, recommending purchases, testing, and approving products; support technical specifications for computer-related purchases.
- Evaluate and recommend hardware and software solutions to improve security and efficiency of company operations.
- Maintain current knowledge by studying development tools and programming techniques, participating in education, reading professional publications, maintaining professional networks, and participating in professional organizations.
- Protect operations by keeping information confidential due to access to industrial and trade secrets.
- Train users to operate new or modified equipment, and train employees on third-party and internal software applications.
- Assist with the design and implementation of information system solutions for tracking employee time, material, accounting, and other information resources.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, mathematics, or information science.
- Equivalent work experience may be considered if it includes demonstrated computer programming skills.
- Excellent technical and problem-solving skills.
- Communication and teamwork skills, including written, verbal, and customer relation communication.
- Capacity to work well in groups and willingness to understand different team roles.
- Proven working experience in software engineering.
- Ability to document requirements and specifications.
- Ability to develop software in C#, VB.Net, C++, or other selected languages.
- Excellent multi-tasking skills with the ability to prioritize multiple concurrent tasks with minimal direction.
- Continuous improvement mindset focused on efficiency, customer satisfaction, and monitoring, management, and optimization tools.
- Ability to support internal cross-functional development by contributing to the maturation of company processes and procedures.
- Ability to work on another’s design.
