Job Description

Software Engineer to build and maintain web-based applications and backend systems in an autonomous agile environment, including Generative AI capabilities with Azure OpenAI and RAG.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal partners to design, configure, maintain, and promote internally and externally facing applications
  • Ensure solutions comply with accessibility standards while supporting application delivery
  • Continuously monitor, test, and optimize software to support reliability and align with architectural standards
  • Participate in continuous code delivery using deployment tools and automated testing
  • Scale applications to support dynamic teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Build and maintain scalable applications
  • Work with software engineers, product managers, analysts, and stakeholders to deliver solutions that meet customer expectations
  • Use GitHub Copilot and other AI-assisted development tools to accelerate coding, testing, and debugging
  • Follow team prompting standards and code-review practices for AI-generated code
  • Contribute to the design and development of Generative AI features such as:
    • Chat interfaces
    • Document summarization
    • Intelligent search
    • Automated content generation
  • Develop and integrate Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines using vector databases such as Azure AI Search, Pinecone, and pgvector to ground outputs in enterprise data
  • Apply Responsible AI practices, including bias awareness, PII handling, and content-safety review, for AI-powered features

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (computer science, engineering, or similar)
  • Experience with a variety of object-oriented languages
  • Experience with web and cross-platform technologies
  • Hands-on experience with Git and code management methodologies
  • Experience with continuous delivery and automated testing
  • Experience with relational and unstructured data repositories
  • Knowledge of modern development practices and lifecycle experience using Scrum, Kanban, Lean, or other agile methodologies
  • Required experience in:
    • React
    • MS VB and C# .NET frameworks, including Web Forms and Windows Forms
    • .NET, .NET WEB API, Entity Framework 6.4, MVC Pattern, SPA Framework
    • JavaScript and frameworks (React JS)
    • Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle, including Stored Procedures/Scripts
    • Azure stack components, including:
      • Azure Functions
      • Azure Data Factory
      • Azure Storage Account
      • Azure Key Vault
      • Azure Cosmos DB
      • Service Bus

    • Azure DevOps CI/CD
    • Responsible AI practices (bias awareness, PII handling, content-safety review) for AI-powered features
    • GitHub Copilot (LSAC’s current AI-assisted development tool) or a comparable AI coding assistant, including writing effective prompts and reviewing AI-generated code for quality and security
    • Generative AI / LLM concepts including Azure OpenAI Service, prompt engineering, RAG, and vector databases
    • Awareness of Responsible AI principles, including bias, PII handling, and content safety in AI-assisted development

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • No people management responsibilities

Position Type

  • Standard business hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. ET
  • Exempt role: work hours as needed to complete assignments responsibly and professionally

Work Environment

  • Remote and professional office environment
  • Routinely uses standard office equipment (computer, phone, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines)

Travel Requirements

  • No travel expected

Physical Demands

  • Regularly write, read, and communicate effectively

Special Conditions or Requirements

  • Ability to work weekends may be necessary

Location: Newtown, PA (remote)

Compensation: USD 108,000 - 115,000 per year

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as computer science, engineering, or similar
