Job Description

Whitley Penn LLP is seeking a full-time Software Developer to join its Information Technology department in the Dallas or Fort Worth area. This hybrid role focuses on designing, building, and deploying custom software applications and tools, including requirements work, web development, and data integration and reporting solutions.

Role Overview

The Software Developer will contribute across the software lifecycle, from requirements gathering through implementation and operational deployment. Responsibilities include working on custom reporting, data integration, automation tools, and digital services, as well as supporting back-end and front-end web development activities in coordination with the IT team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and transition into operational mode custom applications, reporting, data integration, automation tools, and digital services.
  • Conduct requirements gathering with end users and leadership.
  • Provide top-level support when needed to the technical support or infrastructure team.
  • Create extensive, thorough documentation for IT peers and end users to support operation of new custom software and tools.
  • Assist, direct, and execute back-end and front-end web development, including database design, creation, and ongoing operations.
  • Perform other relevant job duties as assigned or required by IT leadership to support software development, deployments, and operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field strongly preferred; or 2 to 5 years of additional experience in software development positions and responsibilities.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience with the .NET framework, .NET Core, or similar.
  • 2 to 5 years of SQL Server experience.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience with web development using Angular, ASP.NET, or similar.
  • Knowledge of common design patterns.
  • Attention to detail, with excellent time management and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a team-oriented approach that supports positive working relationships within the IT organization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some proficiency or experience with jQuery, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap.
  • Experience with GIT-based source control.
  • Python experience is a huge plus.

Location and Schedule

  • Location: Dallas, TX (hybrid) with office expectations/hiring location noted as Dallas or Fort Worth.
  • Classification: Full-time; Exempt
  • Department: Information Technology
  • General work schedule: Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day between 8am to 5pm, with overtime as needed.

Education and Experience

Minimum experience is 2 years, along with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent experience as described in the requirements).
