Senior Software Engineer, Windows/Desktop Applications
Job Description
Speechify seeks a Senior Software Engineer to lead Windows desktop app design and development onsite in Eugene, OR, with a salary range of USD 140,000 to 200,000 per year and potential bonus and stock depending on experience.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, and XAML, with C++ support when needed.
- Define and enforce Windows desktop development best practices across the codebase, covering architecture, performance, memory usage, responsive UI, cross version compatibility (Windows 10/11+), and maintainability.
- Drive accessibility efforts by integrating and validating support for accessibility APIs, ensuring focus management, keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility, and usable UI for users with disabilities.
- Collaborate with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and stakeholders to shape feature planning, UI architecture, and the long term Windows platform roadmap.
- Own the full lifecycle of features from conception through design, implementation, testing, release, and maintenance to ensure quality and reliability across releases.
- Identify, diagnose, and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, or compatibility problems, and propose robust architectural improvements.
Requirements
- 3+ years of Windows desktop application development using Windows App SDK, WinUI or similar, C#, XAML, with ideally additional experience in native Windows code (C++, Win32/WinRT/COM).
- Deep understanding of Windows application architecture, including interop between managed (.NET) and native code.
- Proven track record delivering production quality desktop apps with emphasis on reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability.
- Strong experience with Windows accessibility APIs (Microsoft UI Automation or equivalent) and a commitment to accessible software.
- Solid software engineering fundamentals: OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, and multi-threading or asynchronous programming where relevant.
- Experience leading technical design, mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and making architecture level decisions.
- Excellent communication skills, ability to articulate tradeoffs, collaborate across teams, and drive consensus.
- User centric mindset focused on delivering polished, intuitive, and accessible experiences for end users.
