Senior Software Engineer, Windows/Desktop Applications
Job Description
Senior Software Engineer specializing in Windows desktop applications, responsible for end-to-end delivery, architecture, accessibility, and design for Speechify's Windows platform using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and related technologies.
Responsibilities
- Own the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications leveraging Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and when needed, native C++.
- Define and enforce Windows desktop development best practices across the codebase, covering architecture, performance, memory usage, responsive UI, cross-version compatibility (Windows 10 and 11+), and long-term maintainability.
- Lead accessibility efforts by integrating and validating support for accessibility APIs, ensuring proper focus management, keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility, and inclusive usability.
- Collaborate with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and stakeholders to shape feature planning, UI/UX architecture, and the Windows platform roadmap.
- Own the full lifecycle of features from conception through design, implementation, testing, release, and ongoing maintenance to ensure quality and reliability across releases.
- Identify and diagnose complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, or compatibility problems, and propose robust architectural or design solutions.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of Windows desktop application development using Windows App SDK, WinUI (or equivalent), C#, XAML; ideally with additional experience in native Windows code (C++, Win32/WinRT/COM).
- Deep understanding of Windows app architecture, including interop between managed (.NET) and native code.
- Proven track record delivering production-quality desktop applications with emphasis on reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability.
- Strong experience with Windows accessibility APIs (Microsoft UI Automation or similar) and a commitment to accessible software.
- Solid software engineering fundamentals: object oriented programming, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, and concurrent or asynchronous programming as applicable.
- Experience leading technical design, mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and making architecture-level decisions.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating tradeoffs, collaborating across cross-functional teams, and driving consensus.
- User-centric mindset focused on delivering polished, intuitive, and accessible experiences for end users.

Compensation (US Based)
- Salary range: 140,000 - 200,000 USD per year, plus bonus and stock depending on experience.
