Senior Software Engineer, Strategic Defense (Active Clearance)
Job Description
Anduril Industries is building advanced capabilities to protect the United States and its allies, and the Strategic Defense team is focused on integrated air and missile defense. In this role, you will help develop a software-defined command and control layer designed to see, decide, and act faster than a human operator could alone.
This position is based in Washington, DC and requires an active U.S. Secret clearance. Anduril is looking for an experienced production software engineer to own and deliver software solutions that deploy to customers at the edge of innovation and necessity.
What you’ll do
- Own software solutions that are deployed to customers at the edge of innovation and necessity
- Write code to improve robust command and control (C2) products and scale mission capabilities to broaden impact
- Collaborate across multiple engineering teams to plan, build, and test functionality for complex systems
- Partner with end-users to turn needs into features quickly while balancing user experience and engineering constraints
- Travel 10 to 30% with the team to build, test, and deploy capabilities in real-world settings
What you bring
- Ability to currently possess and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance (or higher)
- 8-12+ years writing production software in C++, Rust, Go, or Python for systems or real users that depend on it
- Experience owning a feature or service end-to-end, including design, implementation, deployment, and response when issues occur
- Ability to debug problems in code you did not write and systems you did not design
- Comfort making engineering decisions with incomplete requirements and updating plans when reality disagrees
- Ability to explain technical tradeoffs to non-software engineers such as operators, hardware engineers, and customers
Team context
- Works to protect the United States and allies from ballistic, hypersonic, and air-breathing threats
- Builds a software-defined command and control layer for integrated air and missile defense
- Team spans autonomy, tracking, simulation and wargaming, hardware, systems engineering, and test and evaluation
- Supports incubating and maturing AI-native offerings for the integrated air and missile defense domain
How the work shows up
- Apply production engineering experience to live systems and complex problem spaces
- Work on problems involving networking, autonomy, systems integration, robotics, and related areas
- Make pragmatic engineering tradeoffs to support desired outcomes in ambiguous situations
- Partner with teams in AI, Edge Hardware, Space Solutions, Networking, and Test Engineering to craft end-to-end systems
Preferred qualifications
- Desire to work on critical software with real-world impact
- Exposure to robotics, distributed systems, networking, or real-time systems
- Experience with mid and upper tier Air Defense Command and Control (C2) programs
- Experience where software interfaces with physical hardware
- Experience building software solutions involving significant amounts of data processing and analysis
- Degree in Computer Science, Math, Physics, or a relevant field
- Willing to travel up to 20% to Asia Pacific
Technologies
- C++
- Rust
