Job Description

Build next-generation digital twin and interactive 3D experiences at Caterpillar in Irving, TX (onsite). In this Senior Software Engineer role, you will design and deliver simulation and visualization capabilities that support Caterpillar’s digital twin initiatives, working primarily with NVIDIA Omniverse and modern C++/Python toolchains across modeling, validation, and integration.

What you’ll work on

  • Develop simulation logic and behavioral models that represent machine and system behavior.
  • Build high-fidelity 3D models, scenes, and environments using NVIDIA Omniverse, USD, and Omniverse Kit-based pipelines.
  • Create and run model validation and verification plans to ensure digital twins are accurate and numerically stable.
  • Integrate simulation components with Caterpillar models, data systems, and digital twin frameworks.
  • Design and contribute to the toolchain and pipeline including scripting utilities, automated test frameworks, and modular code libraries.
  • Work hands-on across multiple digital-twin platforms, including NVIDIA Omniverse (primary), CARLA, Siemens NX/Teamcenter/Plant Simulation, Dassault 3DEXPERIENCE, Ansys Twin Builder, or similar, plus Unity or Unreal Engine.
  • Integrate data, models, or external simulation engines into unified digital-twin experiences.
  • Help evaluate emerging tools and frameworks to expand Caterpillar’s simulation and digital-twin capabilities.
  • Produce software products or systems aligned to product requirements, including knowledge of development tools and activities.
  • Conduct walkthroughs and monitor the effectiveness and quality of development activities.
  • Contribute to development of multiple or large digital twins, including elaboration on multiple-development toolkits for traditional simulation and digital twins.
  • Contrast strengths and tradeoffs between different development languages and tools, and estimate and monitor development costs based on functional and technical requirements.
  • Provide consulting on selecting and using developers’ workbench tools.

  • Hands-on capability across multiple digital-twin platforms (including NVIDIA Omniverse and the listed alternatives).
  • Knowledge of software integration processes and functions, including designing, developing, and maintaining interfaces to alternative platforms and software packages.
  • Understanding of the software development life cycle and structured methodology for delivering and managing new or enhanced software products.

Compensation and schedule

  • Salary: USD 112,710 - 183,140 per year
  • Location: Irving, TX (onsite)
  • Schedule: onsite five days a week; full-time at the Dallas/Irving, TX location
