Senior Software Engineer, Rust
Job Description
Anduril Industries is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to develop and evolve high-performance Rust software supporting real-time tracking, state estimation, and multi-sensor data fusion. This onsite role in Broomfield, Colorado focuses on production architecture, algorithm prototyping, performance validation, and mission-critical customer outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Set technical direction for a small team by applying subject-matter expertise in target tracking and state estimation.
- Architect, maintain, and evolve complex software systems, including refactoring existing codebases to improve performance, maintainability, and scalability.
- Prototype and deploy advanced algorithms for tracking, multi-sensor data fusion, and state estimation in agile, iterative development environments.
- Build high-performance Rust implementations for real-time systems, covering tactical use cases as well as simulation and decision support tools.
- Design and implement robust filters, estimators, and probabilistic reasoning systems to produce actionable insights from noisy or incomplete sensor data.
- Use software design patterns and architectural best practices to manage technical debt and guide long-term evolution of production systems.
- Evaluate system performance using high-fidelity simulations, modeling tools, and rigorous statistical techniques to confirm technology impact.
- Support customer success by customizing algorithms and software for mission-critical applications, including real-time tracking and sensor fusion.
- Integrate tracking and estimation capabilities throughout the software development lifecycle, from requirements through testing and optimization.
- Communicate technical progress into clear, actionable insights for colleagues and end-users.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience and a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, physics, engineering, or another technical field (an advanced degree is strongly preferred).
- Experience managing and evolving software architecture in production environments, including refactoring legacy systems and maintaining technical debt.
- At least 2+ years working on a single codebase or product while maintaining and expanding it as requirements changed.
- Strong understanding of software design patterns, architectural principles, and best practices for building maintainable, scalable systems.
- Proficiency in algorithm design, software development, and statistical modeling, with experience in Rust and Python.
- Applied mathematics knowledge, including linear algebra, optimization, probability, and stochastic processes.
- Familiarity with big data pipelines and NoSQL databases for efficient large-scale sensor data handling.
- Ability to engineer robust systems for estimation theory, adaptive filtering, controls, and complex signal environments.
- Demonstrated experience across prototyping to optimization in production systems.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
Technologies
- Rust
- Python
- NoSQL databases
Benefits
- Comprehensive, competitive benefits package available at little to no cost to employees for health, recovery, and whatever comes next.
- Highly competitive equity grants included in the majority of full-time offers and considered part of Anduril’s total compensation package.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience refactoring and modernizing Rust codebases in production environments.
- Track record of architectural decision-making and technical leadership on long-lived projects.
- Contributions to open-source Rust projects or the broader Rust ecosystem.
- Experience with concurrent and parallel programming patterns in Rust.
- Experience in state estimation, including Bayesian filtering, sensor fusion, and recursive estimation techniques.
- Background in machine learning as applied to target tracking and recognition, including clustering, classification, and anomaly detection.
- Knowledge of target tracking approaches such as Kalman filters, particle filters, and multi-target tracking algorithms including JPDA, MHT, or PHD filters.
- Knowledge of signal processing techniques for interpreting diverse sensor data such as radar, lidar, and EO/IR.
