Senior Software Engineer - Python
Job Description
NISA Investment Advisors, LLC is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Python) to strengthen our Investment Risk and Analytics workstream. In this onsite role in St. Louis, MO, you will design and maintain Python platforms that support analytics, quantitative workflows, and risk valuation tools. You will partner with business and quantitative research teams to translate requirements into extensible solutions for data distribution, analysis, and modeling.
This position emphasizes collaboration, continuous improvement through design and code reviews, and technical leadership through mentoring. You will also contribute to production systems that are business-critical and performance-aware, with modern testing and delivery practices.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, build, and maintain Python platforms powering NISA’s analytics, quantitative workflows, and risk valuation tools
- Work closely with business counterparts and quantitative research groups to understand needs and formulate requirements
- Design extensible solutions for data distribution, analysis, and modeling consumed by internal business groups
- Participate in design and code reviews
- Collaborate with other teams to support shared technical goals
- Mentor junior teammates
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a field requiring strong analytical and quantitative skills, such as Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Finance, or Information Systems
- 5+ years of professional software development experience, including 3+ years of Python
- Extensive experience designing queries and data structures in Postgres, SQL Server, or other relational database platforms
- Experience building and operating business-critical systems in production
- Experience building systems that scale, including monitoring and optimizing computational and/or memory performance
- Experience with unit/integration testing frameworks and modern CI/CD practices
Preferred
- Experience collaborating with data scientists, quantitative researchers, and other similar technical stakeholders
- Experience building solutions using public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Experience designing and implementing data pipelines to support quantitative research, including backtesting, feature engineering, factor research, or portfolio analytics
- Familiarity with other high-level languages such as C# or Java
- Familiarity with MATLAB
- Working knowledge of modern application frameworks
- Previous professional experience in the financial services sector
