Senior Software Engineer - AI Trainer
Job Description
AfterQuery Experts is a research lab exploring the boundaries of artificial intelligence through novel datasets and experimentation. As a Senior Software Engineer - AI Trainer, you will help shape how frontier models reason about software by building and evaluating the backend engineering scenarios used for trustworthy training data. The engagement is fully remote and asynchronous, giving you flexibility to work on your own schedule while contributing to research used by leading AI labs.
What you’ll do
- Design realistic engineering tasks across backend services, data modeling, and API design, grounded in production practice
- Assess model outputs for correctness, sound reasoning, and subtle failure modes that can impact real-world reliability
- Document your judgment with clear reasoning so another engineer can audit the evaluation process
What we need
- Senior-level experience building backend services in production
- Strong SQL and schema design skills, including practical use of caching and queueing patterns
- A proven record of ownership for service reliability and performance
Compensation and flexibility
- Competitive Compensation: $120-$140/hour, paid weekly
- Flexible Engagement: Fully remote and asynchronous, on your own schedule
