Job Description

Trident Research LLC is hiring a Senior Software Engineer in Austin, TX (onsite) to design, develop, test, document, and maintain software products. The position combines hands-on engineering across C/C++, C#, WPF/XAML, and Linux/Unix with technical leadership and independent problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, debug, and maintain software applications and components.
  • Build software in C/C++ using object-oriented programming principles.
  • Develop C# applications using WPF, XAML, and the Model-View-ViewModel (MVVM) design pattern.
  • Create reusable, modular, and maintainable software components.
  • Work in Linux or Unix environments as required.
  • Develop and troubleshoot networking and communications software, including serial communications, TCP, UDP, and socket-based applications.
  • Draft, review, and maintain software design documentation.
  • Develop and review software test plans, test procedures, and supporting quality documentation.
  • Implement designs in alignment with approved requirements, specifications, and software design documents.
  • Follow internal and external coding, documentation, and development standards.
  • Manage and contribute to Git repositories and version-control workflows.
  • Analyze technical risks, set priorities, and take appropriate action to resolve complex issues.
  • Complete assignments on or ahead of schedule while maintaining quality and thorough documentation.
  • Collaborate effectively with engineering teams, customers, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide technical leadership by proposing practical, creative, and well-supported solutions to complex problems.
  • Support continuous improvement of engineering processes, tools, and practices.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of company, customer, and project information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field; equivalent education and experience may be considered.
  • At least 11 years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong proficiency in C/C++ and object-oriented programming.
  • Professional experience with C# and WPF.
  • Experience developing graphical user interfaces with XAML.
  • Experience using the MVVM design pattern.
  • Experience working in Linux or Unix environments.
  • Experience with networking or communications technologies, including:
    • Serial communications
    • TCP/IP
    • UDP
    • Socket programming
  • Experience with Git and software repository management.
  • Ability to create and review technical documentation, including trade studies, requirements, software specifications, design documents, test plans and procedures, and user procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning, multitasking, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, solve complex problems, and work effectively under changing deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.

Compensation and Schedule

This is a full-time role. Pay range is USD 127,000 - 139,000 per year.
