Senior Software Engineer
Job Description
Join Mastercard as a Senior Software Engineer on site in O'Fallon, Missouri. This experienced individual contributor designs, builds, tests, and maintains complex software solutions while serving as a technical leader and mentor within the team. The role offers high autonomy, involvement across the full software development lifecycle, and a focus on elevating code quality and system design.
Responsibilities
- Own software delivery tasks (code development, test, deployment, release, configuration and documentation) at an application/software component level
- Troubleshoot and refactor existing code to achieve exceptional code quality
- Adopt new languages and architecture patterns required for the work
- Participate in and contribute to the team’s agile process and decisions, including prioritization
- Pull from backlog and deliver work with guidance from experienced team members and in partnership with the full scrum team
- Automate build, operate, and run aspects of software
- Drive code and design trade-off discussions within the team when needed
- Drive integration of services with a focus on customer journey and experience
- Perform demos and acceptance discussions in interactions with Product Owners
- Understand operational and engineering experience and actively work to improve metrics in the ownership area
- Develop a complete understanding of end-to-end technical architecture and dependency systems
- Promote adoption of technology standards and opinionated frameworks, and review coding, test, and automation work of team members
- Mentor and guide new and less-experienced team members
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and reduce waste
- Share and seek knowledge within the Guild/Program to drive reuse of patterns, libraries, and practices
Requirements
- Working experience across multiple programming languages (JAVA is a must) and frameworks
- High-energy, detail-oriented, proactive, and able to function independently under pressure

- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with relationship-building, collaboration, and organizational capabilities
- Drives outcomes through a strong commitment to timely delivery of key objectives

- Experience with software development processes and one or more Application Lifecycle Management tools
- Track record of delivering high-quality project design deliverables and documentation
- Demonstrated experience with AI
- Familiarity with performance tuning and automation
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or extensive equivalent experience)

Pay Ranges
O'Fallon, Missouri: USD 115,000 - USD 184,000 per year
