Senior Software Engineer

Liberty Mutual is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the technical strategy and platform architecture of the Knowledge Management ecosystem, including KC and AskKC. This hybrid role is based in Indianapolis, Indiana, with collaboration across multiple U.S. locations to shape scalable systems and reliable integrations that support AI powered search capabilities and knowledge delivery.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end technical architecture of the Knowledge Management platform ecosystem (KC and AskKC).
• Lead the design and rollout of the golden copy strategy to create a single source of truth for knowledge articles, with Amazon S3 as the authoritative store and the migration away from Snowflake for AskKC.
• Define and drive the technical roadmap for platform modernization and scalability.
• Design and manage API integrations that deliver contextual knowledge to internal systems.
• Ensure reliable, secure, and well documented integration patterns across platforms.
• Partner with internal engineering teams to enable seamless knowledge delivery.
• Serve as the technical bridge between the Knowledge Management team and the Data Science team on AskKC, supporting AI powered article search summarization.
• Maintain a working understanding of RAG, document chunking, embeddings, and summarization pipelines to support the data science team.
• Not required to build ML models, but you must understand the architecture end-to-end.
• Design and implement a strategy to automate access management for KC and AskKC, moving from manual processes.
• Collaborate with identity and security teams to establish RBAC and governance.
• Lead the resolution of technical incidents across internal teams and conduct root cause analysis with preventive measures.
• Communicate effectively with both technical and business stakeholders during incidents.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in software or platform engineering, with at least 3 years in a senior role.
• Familiarity with Snowflake in the context of migration or replacement projects.
• Working knowledge of AI and ML concepts, including RAG, document chunking, vector stores, and LLM based summarization.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation) and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
• Python or a similar scripting language for automation.
• Knowledge of Knowledge-Centered Service (KCS) methodology.
• Experience decommissioning or replacing legacy components.
• Strong experience with AWS services, especially S3 and IAM, and related data storage services.
• Proven ability to design and manage API integrations (RESTful APIs, API gateways).
• Demonstrated ability to design source-of-truth or golden copy architectures and lead data platform migrations.
• Experience designing new system architectures and leading platform migrations.
• Strong understanding of access management concepts, RBAC, SSO/SAML/OAuth, and moving from manual to automated provisioning.
• Experience with incident management processes and cross-team coordination.
• Ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical or business discipline, or equivalent experience.

• Develop a deep understanding of the KC and AskKC ecosystem, build strong relationships with data science teams, and identify access management gaps.
• Deliver a roadmap for the S3 golden copy implementation, initiate automated access management, and establish a clear technical leadership position for Knowledge Management.
• Execute the S3 source-of-truth strategy, reduce or eliminate Snowflake dependency, implement automated access management, and achieve measurable improvements in incident resolution times.
