Job Description

Senior Lead Software Engineer - Backend Java role based in Jersey City, NJ (onsite) with a salary range of USD 171,000 to 260,000 per year, contributing to JPMorganChase's Consumer and Community Banking technology team.

Responsibilities

  • Offers ongoing technical guidance to support the business, its engineering teams, contractors, and vendors.
  • Delivers secure, high quality production code and conducts reviews and debugging of peers' work.
  • Shapes decisions that affect product design, application functionality, and technical operations and processes.
  • Acts as a function-wide subject matter expert in one or more areas of focus.
  • Leads adoption of enterprise authorized AI assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes, while establishing consistent validation standards and promoting reuse of effective patterns across the team.
  • Leverages SDLC toolchain and AI-enabled development and automation capabilities to maximize automation value.
  • Engages with the engineering community to advocate firmwide SDLC frameworks, tools, and practices.
  • Influences peers and project decision makers to evaluate and apply leading edge technologies.
  • Fosters a team culture oriented toward diversity, opportunity, inclusion, and respect.

Requirements

  • Formal training or certification in software engineering with at least five years of hands-on experience.
  • Hands-on experience across system design, application development, testing, and ensuring operational stability.
  • Advanced proficiency in the Java programming language.
  • Strong experience with automation and continuous delivery practices.
  • Thorough understanding of all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle.
  • Deep knowledge of agile methodologies, including CI/CD, application resiliency, and security.
  • Proven expertise in software applications and technical processes within a discipline such as cloud, AI/ML, or mobile.
  • Experience guiding the effective use of enterprise approved AI-assisted development tools for coding, code review, test acceleration, and troubleshooting, with the ability to set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
  • Strong grasp of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity, secure input/output handling, and adherence to resiliency and security standards; experience coaching peers on safe, compliant adoption within delivery practices.
  • Experience designing, deploying, and managing containerized applications using Kubernetes.
  • Deep understanding of the financial services industry and its IT systems.

The team leads in credit card sales and deposit growth and provides highly used digital solutions, all while prioritizing customer satisfaction.
