Job Description

Fannie Mae is hiring a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer (Reston, VA hybrid) to design and deliver moderately complex, cloud-based software and enterprise reporting capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Independently assess customer needs and create solution frameworks
  • Design and develop moderately complex software solutions using a process-driven approach
  • Implement new software technology and coordinate end-to-end execution across the team
  • Maintain or oversee the maintenance of existing software systems
  • Partner with business stakeholders to understand strategic priorities and translate them into scalable, high-value technical solutions
  • Build and develop full-stack applications that support critical business and financial reporting across the enterprise
  • Create and maintain robust APIs to enable integration with enterprise platforms and backend services
  • Develop and optimize complex SQL queries to generate trusted datasets for reporting and analytics
  • Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and availability for business-critical reporting and decision-making
  • Simplify and modernize complex systems to improve efficiency, scalability, and reduce operational overhead and cost
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of scalable, cloud-native solutions on AWS
  • Collaborate across engineering, business, and support teams to deliver end-to-end solutions with measurable business impact

Requirements

  • 2+ years of software development experience, focused on full stack, Java-based web applications
  • Strong full stack development skills with Java, Spring Boot, REST API development, and Angular (or similar frameworks)
  • Hands-on AWS experience building cloud-native applications and services: S3, EC2, ECS, Fargate, Lambda, SNS/SQS
  • Proven experience building ETL pipelines and scalable data processing solutions
  • Advanced relational database and SQL experience, including writing and optimizing complex queries for large-scale datasets
  • Experience with DevOps tooling including GitLab and CI/CD pipelines (Terraform preferred)
  • Solid understanding of scalable, distributed system design and architecture
  • Experience working with financial or reporting datasets is highly preferred
  • Experience partnering directly with business stakeholders to deliver solutions
  • Experience working in Agile environments with cross-functional collaboration
  • Curiosity and adaptability in learning and applying new technologies, including artificial intelligence, to reimagine how work is done
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
