Job Description

The Hanover Insurance Group seeks a Senior Data Engineer to design, build, implement, and maintain data integrations and pipelines, with a leadership role on cross-functional teams, based in Worcester, MA or remote.

Responsibilities

  • Apply data engineering best practices for storage, integration, transformation, and access across Azure and on‑premises environments.
  • Design and deliver data solutions using Azure resources such as Data Factory, Synapse, and ADLS.
  • Lead data integration, ETL workflows, and data warehousing efforts.
  • Demonstrate advanced skills in SQL, Python, and PowerShell.
  • Leverage data modeling, governance, and established engineering patterns to shape data solutions.
  • Optimize data ingestion pipelines and notebooks for scale, performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Work with integration connectors including APIs, files, SFTP/FTPS, streaming data, DB connectors, SOAP, and REST.
  • Communicate effectively, solve problems, and collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
  • Document data processes and solutions clearly for maintainability and reuse.
  • Protect data security and ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Operate within agile development and DevOps practices.
  • Utilize Git and GitHub for CI/CD workflows.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and technical guidance to junior engineers.
  • Profile and analyze large datasets to inform design and optimization decisions.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Debug data solution issues and implement effective fixes.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and stakeholders to achieve goals.
  • Monitor and maintain data pipelines to ensure reliability and uptime.
  • Design, develop, and test data mappings with transformation rules.
  • Maintain data quality and data reliability across solutions.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for data integration and ETL solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Information Technology, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in data engineering, data architecture, or data integration.
  • Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future (US citizen or green card holder).

  • Microsoft DP-203 or DP-700 certification
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric
  • Power BI experience
  • Master’s degree in data science, mathematics, statistics, computer science, information systems, or related fields
