Job Description

Join Catapult Sports’ Focus Live team in Boston to build real-time video capture and server processing for live American football environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain high-performance real-time C++ systems for live video capture and server processing.
  • Implement and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable C++ code.
  • Participate in shaping and improving technology and architecture as the product evolves.
  • Improve code quality, code organisation, and modern C++ development practices.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team through design discussions, code reviews, and technical collaboration.
  • Contribute to test strategy: define test cases, write unit tests, and drive automation.
  • Continuously raise performance, reliability, and maintainability standards for the product.
  • Work on software that must operate reliably in the demanding environment of live football.

Requirements

  • Experience building high-performance, robust software solutions using modern C++.
  • Demonstrated experience with live video streams and low-latency processing.
  • Experience with video formats including H.264 and H.265.
  • Hands-on experience developing applications using FFmpeg.
  • Experience building multithreaded, performant server or desktop applications.
  • Solid knowledge of unit testing methodologies and tools, focused on maintainable and traceable code.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Preferred (also great if you have)

  • Cross-platform development experience, particularly Windows and Linux.
  • Experience with modern C++ build systems such as CMake.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions or TeamCity.
  • Experience with network programming, distributed systems, and real-time data transfer protocols.
  • Experience working within agile engineering teams delivering robust, scalable applications, services, or APIs.

Success measures

  • After 6 months: Contribute confidently to the Focus Live codebase, understand the live capture environment, and support the product through the demands of the football season.
  • After 12 months: Help deliver a successful season of live capture; design improvements, influence technical decisions, and lead the addition of features for the next season.
  • Ultimately: Become one of the engineers the team trusts to solve the hardest performance and reliability challenges.

Compensation

  • Target Total Compensation range: $160,000 to $180,000 per year.
  • The range includes base salary and a target incentive plan, which may include equity, commission, or other bonus structures.

Location: Boston, MA (onsite). All offers of employment are subject to Catapult’s positive prehire check.
