Job Description

Lead automation and orchestration of complex data workflows on on-prem Oracle systems using Python and Apache Airflow.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, deploy, and maintain Python automation scripts to orchestrate jobs on Oracle 19c (on-prem).
  • Design and implement Apache Airflow DAGs to manage complex, interdependent ETL workflows.
  • Modernize and migrate existing scheduling and job logic from Perl, RunMyJob, and PL/SQL into modular, observable Airflow DAGs.
  • Build custom Airflow operators/sensors for Oracle integration, REST APIs, file drops via SFTP/FTP, and external triggers.
  • Implement robust error handling, alerting, and retry mechanisms across job pipelines.
  • Partner with DBAs and application teams to document job dependencies, critical paths, and data lineage.
  • Create and maintain job execution logs, audit trails, and SLA monitoring dashboards.
  • Support code reviews, documentation updates, and onboarding new jobs into the orchestrator.

Requirements

  • Oracle database experience (including Oracle 19c familiarity).
  • Finance experience is a plus.
  • ETL background and Python Shell Script experience.
  • Linux experience (advanced and fundamental).
  • Apache Airflow experience.
  • 5+ years of Python development experience with strong system and process automation knowledge.
  • 2+ years building production Airflow DAGs.
  • Solid understanding of SQL tuning and PL/SQL concepts.
  • Experience orchestrating jobs that move large volumes of data across enterprise systems.
  • Familiarity with schedulers such as RunMyJob and Autosys, including replacing/abstracting them via orchestration tools.
  • Strong debugging capability across logs, databases, and filesystem for failed jobs or partial runs.
  • Experience with REST API integrations, SFTP/file movement, and parameter-driven automation.

Preferred / Bonus

  • Experience modernizing legacy workflows from Perl and PL/SQL stored procedures.
  • Hands-on knowledge of Git/Bitbucket and Jenkins with CI/CD for code-controlled job rollouts.
  • Familiarity with financial data models (e.g., holdings, transactions, NAVs, tax lots).
  • Basic understanding of data governance, audit, and operational risk in financial systems.

  • Jersey City, NJ (onsite, 3 days onsite)

Compensation

  • USD 70 - 85 per hourly
  • Estimated min rate: $70.00
  • Estimated max rate: $85.00
