Job Description
Amazon Industrial Robotics is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to own and architect the simulation and automation capability for our next-generation robotics systems. This onsite role in Reading, MA offers a yearly salary ranging from USD 200,100 to 270,600. The successful candidate will establish Amazon's simulation competency at scale and serve as the technical authority for simulation frameworks, automation pipelines, and related software across the product line.
Responsibilities
- Define the architectural vision for a digital-twin based, AI-driven autonomous validation framework using simulation as the baseline, and align cross-organizational deliverables to support the vision while clarifying validation needs.
- Enable digital twin capabilities through software hooks and deliver launchable digital-twin instances with robust metrics and observability.
- Collaborate with the platform team to support adversary testing of the simulation platform, ensuring robustness under edge cases and failure modes.
- Deliver virtualized dynamic environments that enable software testability in field-like conditions, supporting rapid iteration and validation without physical deployments.
- Support safety qualification through simulation by creating virtualized dynamic environments to validate autonomous behaviors and ensure compliance with safety standards before deployment.
Requirements
- 15+ years in software engineering or related technical disciplines
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field
- Experience leading complex, multi-system projects from conception to delivery
- Proven track record of influencing senior leadership and driving technical decisions
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement large-scale distributed systems

Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Engineering or related technical field
- Experience with functional decomposition and leading teams in model-based simulation engineering, systems engineering, architecture requirements, technical analysis, and technology research
- Experience with rapid prototyping and agile testing methodologies applied to systems and automation
- Technical publications and patents
