Job Description

Boeing’s simulation engineering teams build reliable software that helps engineering work move from concept to validated performance. In this hybrid role based in Bingen, WA, you’ll contribute to the design, development, and testing of simulation software and modular simulation physics components, with opportunities to expand your skills using AI tools and basic machine learning techniques (initially under mentorship).

What you’ll do

  • Design, develop, and test simulation software using modern programming languages and software engineering best practices.
  • Help build modular simulation physics components, including models for aerodynamics, actuators, payloads, and environmental effects, with guidance from senior engineers.
  • Collaborate with systems engineers, simulation developers, and airframe designers to align software implementations with aircraft and system requirements.
  • Implement, test, and refine simulations of physical, digital, or hybrid systems to match project needs and engineering specifications.
  • Learn to use AI tools and basic machine learning techniques to improve simulation fidelity and support modeling workflows or analyze simulation outputs, initially with mentorship.
  • Work with domain experts, engineers, data scientists, and other stakeholders to integrate simulations (including AI-enhanced features) into engineering workflows or customer-facing solutions.
  • Maintain code quality by writing clear code comments, contributing to technical documentation, user guides, and supporting code repositories.
  • Stay current on simulation technologies and tools, and share ideas for improvements with the team.

What you bring

  • Coursework, projects, or internship experience in simulation development or modeling using MathWorks tools (such as MATLAB and Simulink).
  • Familiarity with modular design principles and object-oriented programming in C++ or C#.
  • A solid foundation in mathematics and physics (examples include dynamics, control, numerical methods) or systems modeling from education or projects.
  • Interest in and basic understanding of fixed-wing and/or rotorcraft aerodynamics (coursework, personal projects, or on-the-job training).
  • Strong software development and debugging skills, with the ability to learn and apply new tools with guidance.
  • Experience with version control (for example, Git) from coursework, personal projects, or internships.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, including comfort asking questions and seeking feedback.

Tools you’ll use

MathWorks tools, MATLAB, Simulink, C++, C#, Git, AI tools, and basic machine learning techniques.
