Principal Software Engineer

Focused Support LLC offers an architecture‑led, hands‑on principal software engineering role onsite in Logan, UT. This position blends strategic design with direct coding and team mentorship, delivering deployments to customer sites. The compensation ranges from USD 168,000 to 218,000 per year, and US citizenship is required. Our small software firm operates from Logan with a second office in Columbia, MD, and works on projects that support national security for the US Air Force and other large aircraft manufacturers. Responsibilities

• Architect scalable, resilient, flexible, and secure system designs aligned with business goals
• Provide architectural leadership while ensuring designs map to strategic objectives
• Hands-on implementation of core frameworks and critical system components
• Proactively manage technical debt and promote best practices in code quality, security, and performance through leadership and code reviews
• Communicate technical status and direction clearly to non‑technical Product Owners and stakeholders
• Lead software teams by articulating the architectural vision and maintaining an active presence in the code base
• Mentor junior developers through pair programming, architectural guidance, and constructive feedback
• Oversee and, when appropriate, perform product deployments to customer locations

Requirements

• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate in a team environment
• Capable of working with minimal day-to-day direction
• Expert level proficiency with a modern object‑oriented language such as Java, C++, or C#
• Proficiency in modern web design paradigms, tools, and languages such as JavaScript, TypeScript, and Angular
• Desire and ability to quickly learn new technologies and adapt to new environments and methodologies
• Effective oral and written communication
• Flexibility to adapt to the changing needs of a small, rapidly growing business
• Bachelors or Masters Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent professional experience
• Due to security requirements, US citizenship is required
