Principal Data Engineer - Global Cybersecurity Data & Analytics

Liberty Mutual is seeking a Principal Data Engineer to lead Global Cybersecurity Data and Analytics initiatives in Columbus, Ohio. In this role, you will shape data architecture, deliver engineering capabilities, and build visualizations that support cybersecurity, governance, and compliance outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Consult on designing and developing complex programs and tools that support ingestion, curation, and provisioning of enterprise data for analytics, reporting, and data science.
• Build and design data architecture to improve accessibility, efficiency, governance, and overall data quality.
• Collect, clean, and transform traditional and big data to maintain accuracy and enable accessible use.
• Recommend improvements to data and drive those recommendations through to implementation.
• Develop deep knowledge of technology enablers supporting data platforms and analytics workflows.
• Document existing processes, organizational structures, architectures, and external systems.
• Contribute to the development and enhancement of solutions tied to key business outcomes.
• Create interactive, visually appealing data visualizations using large datasets to surface patterns, trends, and correlations.
• Provide guidance on Power BI visualization tool capabilities and functionality.
• Present and educate a broad audience on how to use visualizations effectively.
• Actively use AI tools to improve speed, quality, and scale of work; identify concrete workflows where AI adds value; critically evaluate and validate AI output; and apply AI responsibly to protect confidential and customer data.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical or business discipline, or equivalent experience; technical degree preferred.
• Typically 8+ years of professional experience.
• In-depth knowledge of IT concepts, strategies, and methodologies.
• In-depth understanding of diverse and emerging technologies and new architectural concepts and principles.
• Knowledge of data engineering languages and tools, with proficiency in new and emerging technologies.
• In-depth understanding of layered solutions and designs, including shared data engineering concepts and product features, with a security-minded approach.
• In-depth understanding of business operations, objectives, and strategies, including global business and technology trends and the financial services industry.
• Strong negotiation, consensus-building, influencing, facilitation, and adaptability to respond quickly to change.
• Highly developed oral and written communication skills, including strong presentation skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
• Solid Python, Pandas, and SQL skills paired with analytical and critical thinking, including an understanding of big data technologies.
• Understanding of machine learning principles, statistics, and algorithms.
• Understanding of data warehouse solutions, modeling, and governance.

• Proven experience in data modeling, governance, and analytics.
• Ability to leverage and build APIs.
• Python programming knowledge.
• SQL query and data management experience.

Education

Compensation

USD 120,000 - 225,000 per yearly

Pay philosophy: The typical starting salary range is based on factors including skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. The full salary range reflects competitive market value for employees in these positions across the national market and allows for growth within the role. Some Liberty Mutual roles may include a corresponding compensation plan that can include commission and/or bonus earnings based on factors defined in the plan for the role.
