Job Description

The Lead Software Engineer role resides within JPMorgan Chase's Consumer and Community Banking organization, in the Connected Commerce and Payments area. This position acts as a core technical contributor on agile teams, delivering secure, scalable technology products while guiding design decisions and promoting AI-assisted engineering practices across multiple technical domains.

Compensation

Salary: USD 152,000 - 215,000 per year

Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing technical guidance to support the business, its engineering teams, contractors, and vendors.
  • Develop secure, high-quality production code and review or debug code authored by others.
  • Influence design decisions, application functionality, and technical operations to support product goals.
  • Lead adoption of enterprise authorized AI assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes, while establishing consistent validation standards and promoting reusable patterns.
  • Apply expertise with the SDLC toolchain, including enterprise AI assisted development and automation capabilities, to maximize automation value.
  • Serve as a function-wide subject matter expert in one or more focus areas.
  • Actively contribute to the engineering community by advocating firmwide frameworks, tools, and SDLC practices.
  • Influence peers and project decision-makers to consider and adopt leading edge technologies.

Requirements

  • Formal training or certification in software engineering with 5+ years of applied experience.
  • Experience leading technologist teams and guiding coaching efforts to achieve goals aligned with strategic initiatives.
  • Experience hiring, developing, and recognizing engineering talent.
  • Hands-on experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
  • Advanced knowledge of software applications and processes with deep expertise in one or more technical disciplines (for example cloud, AI, machine learning, mobile).
  • Ability to independently tackle design and functionality problems with minimal supervision.
  • Proven track record in leading the effective use of approved AI assisted development tools, setting team expectations for validating AI outputs regarding correctness, performance, and security.
  • Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security requirements; experience coaching engineers on safe, compliant adoption within delivery practices.
  • Proficiency in Java/J2EE and REST APIs, Web Services, plus experience building event driven microservices and Kafka streaming.
  • Experience with the Spring Framework, Spring Boot, and AWS public cloud services.
  • Solid understanding of agile methodologies including CI/CD, resilience, and security practices.
  • Working proficiency with development toolsets such as Git/Bitbucket, JIRA, and Maven.
  • Direct experience coding at the code level.
