Job Description
JPMorganChase's Consumer and Community Banking technology organization seeks a Senior Lead Software Engineer focused on Java to steer agile development and secure, scalable product delivery. The role emphasizes advancing AI-assisted development practices to raise code quality, accelerate delivery, and strengthen operational resilience across critical financial systems. This onsite position in Jersey City, NJ, calls for hands-on leadership within a collaborative engineering environment.
Compensation
- Salary: USD 152,000 - 215,000 per year
Responsibilities
- Provide technical guidance to the business and its internal teams, contractors, and vendor partners.
- Develop secure, high-quality production code and review or debug code written by others.
- Influence decisions shaping product design, application functionality, and technical operations and processes.
- Serve as a function-wide subject matter expert in one or more focus areas.
- Champion enterprise authorized AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes (eg, AI-assisted code review, refactoring, faster test strategies, incident analysis support).
- Establish consistent validation standards (secure coding, peer review, automated testing) and promote reuse of effective patterns across the team.
- Apply knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to boost automation value.
- Actively contribute to the engineering community as an advocate of firmwide SDLC frameworks, tools, and practices.
- Influence peers and project decision-makers to consider the use and application of leading-edge technologies.

Requirements
- Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts and 5+ years of applied experience.
- Hands-on experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
- Advanced proficiency in the Java programming language.
- Proficiency in automation and continuous delivery methods.
- Proficient in all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle.
- Advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security.
- Demonstrated proficiency in software applications and technical processes within a technical discipline (e.g., cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, mobile, etc.).
- Demonstrated experience leading effective use of approved AI-assisted software development tools (e.g., for coding, code review, test acceleration, troubleshooting) with the ability to set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
- Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; experience coaching engineers on safe, compliant adoption within delivery practices.
- Experience designing, deploying, and managing containerized applications using Kubernetes.
- In-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and its IT systems.
